Dd2 (ASD) has started singing along to the tv (the bed time song on c-beebies) but she doesn't say the words as such but makes noises that sound simalar IYKWIM (umm, ohh, ahh ect..). And today she has kind of repeated my voice (again using simalar sounds). Is this a step in the rite direction?

I'm no expert but I think yes, it does mean she is getting closer to talking. I'd like to think so, anyway. DD (not ASD, GDD) has been 'singing' in this way since about last Sept. She is on pitch and very accurate, but the words are probably even less on target. It's weird as so far she doesn't talk in any useful way--she can say her brother's name, and a few other single words, but nothing useful like 'I'm jolly thirsty,' or 'any chance of a sandwich, mummy?'

ooh yes it does sound like it ds started off by singing and mimicking but not in voice

obviously cant say for sure but it certainly sounds positive in deed

well done to dd x

We do get the odd word out of her (mum, biscuit, please) but again nothing really useful . Fingers crossed that its the begining of something.

well if she already has words then i would say she is processing the sounds to the words and it'll only be a matter of time woo hoo its great

Marne, DD also says 'bikkit' !(biscuit), 'okka' (Oskar, her brother) 'go!', mumma, 'byebye' and 'hello'. It's taken 8 months to get from 'go' to this point. She can copy some sounds too, so if you say a word slowly and clearly and repeat it often enough, she will repeat it, but without understanding. She also knows when a response is expected.
So--me: DD, are you ready to go out?
DD: Yess
Me: Would you like to take your ball?
DD: Yess
Me: Are you a radio?
DD: Yess (said just as enthusiastically).
