if you would be so kind, ladies.

going up to have ds diagnosed (hypermobility syndrome)

a little sad

but more worried in case dr won't diagnose him

and this is the doctor I saw immediately after the big kerfuffle with dd (suspicions of psychosoma and sexual abuse), so am a bit nervous about memories

and we didn't see eye to eye on the subject of disability support in those days

so all a bit scary

have a wishlist as long as my arm for ds

who is now refusing to get in the shower (are rheumatologists less likely to diagnose children with smelly feet?)

Thanks, folks.

Went quite well I think, though obviously I'll have to reserve judgment until I have seen the actual diagnosis.

It wasn't the rheumatologist I'd expected though, but the paed who's been seeing dd- I think we both did a bit of a double take; she has shown in the past that she found the whole situation of dealing with dd difficult and I have sometimes been very stressed in her office

fortunately ds turned out to be very obviously hypermobile (more so than we'd realised), so there was no doubt about that

also gave a good impression that his knees were covered in bruises and cuts, so clearly not a molly-coddled couch potato, but the active little boy doctors like to see

but she was very keen on excluding me from the conversation, particularly at first, and addressing all questions to ds. Which led to some peculiar answers: 'the pains first started in the summer holidays' (he meant summer holidays several years ago); 'my favourite sport is ice hockey' (he can't skate- he meant on TV), 'it's only my feet and wrists that hurt' (knees and ankles are a big problem, but he'd forgotten). So I kept having to butt in which I suppose reinforced her image of me as a neurotic interfering mother. But what kind of an idiot expects an 8yo to be able to look back in time and remember when a chronic pain started? He probably doesn't remember a time when his wrists didn't hurt so just grabbed a date out of the blue. I wouldn't have been at all surprised if he'd said 'just before breakfast'.

anyway, the only bit that matters is that she agreed to refer us to physio, OT and a genethicist

SO that's GOOD

she then discharged us very quickly - clearly wanted us out (and he had washed his feet!)

am wondering if part of the problem is that she is hypermobile (she showed ds) but not to the point of disability, so she doesn't think other people should be either

Anyway, got everything I wanted, so that's the main thing.

Thanks for good vibes
