Private assessment

So fed up waiting for final assessment for ASD (I think!). Having had SALT & Paed appt reasonably quickly have been told at least 40 week waiting list for next one where I think they will make a dx. I know it won't make a huge difference to anything we are doing/accessing at the moment but just want to know yes or no - does anyone else feel like this. Spent most of day ringing/emailing hospitals in London/Surrey and finally found one that also does private and have appt for Sunday.

Yes definitely. It helps that we have already had SALT & Paed assessments done although we wont have the Paed report for at least a month. What is ICAN?

Thanks. Have you heard of DISCO as the consultant mentioned that she will carry that out on Sun?

Not sure where to start! It was like a job interview for 2 hours but in fairness anything she asked my DS backed my answers up by doing the following - There was lots of flapping, telephone disconnected for him to play with (his current obsession), trying to get out of the room, tantrum when his shoe opened, insisting I sit on floor with him (DH was there to), lots of talking but you couldn't understand any of it. There were a few more incidents but wont bore you with it. She was very helpful though and will have full report and dx as soon as she receives the NHS Paed report which should hopefully have in a couple of weeks. Noted severe delays in all areas except for comprehension and very close in some areas! Suggested to start OT immediately and continue with all we are doing. Felt reasonably ok as better than waiting 40 weeks to be told the same thing.

. This is where it gets worse. Went to GP today to get a referral for OT and DS had a 30' tantrum whilst waiting. No idea why but there was no consoling him. It was def the worst he ever had. Ended up seeing a locum as our own GP had at least another hour b4 he could see us. He had no idea about autism or thought OT was for old people! I just left as was completely stressed at this stage. Will phone the practice manager tomorrow when stress levels down to explain and maybe make another appt and go on my own. That's all for now!

Clueless is rather polite term for my GP or the one I saw today!

Basically after she read my nursery and SALT reports she noted it was so obvious he was on the spectrum just from looking and observing him for 5 mins. I had planned to ask in more detail of what level (if that is the right word) she thought he was on but just forget and it was a bit stressful at the end as he was tired and dragging me to the door. Exhausting!
