Good news about the DLA.

Good luck with the carers allowance application.

Great news about the DLA. CAll FTC as well, as this will increase. Tell them it has been effective from the date the DLA was awarded from and it should be backdated.

Good luck with the carers allowance.

Can I hijack quickly and ask by how much the FTC/WTC is affected by DLA? DS was awarded lower mobility and higher care and I wasn't sure if I needed to call the tax credit people or if they would adjust it? We only get about £10 a week for our credits so not sure if it will increase?

Our FTC increased by £40ish a week if I remember correctly. But I was working at the time, and it has changed a few times in the last year. I also only get middle care. Higher care gets you a bit more FTC, so worth doing.

fatzak · 14/05/2009 22:14

Yes I was so surprised to get the higher care and so quickly too - just two weeks from sending it in. I do feel a bit weird about claiming it, but when I think about how DS is affected by his epilepsy and how much time we have to have off work etc then I kind of feel better about it!

Have a fear of calling the tax credits people as DH is now self employed and I envisage a nightmare trying to work out how much we are entitled to!

Disabled child is £2670
High rate care £1075

So up to £72 per week, but depends on your income.

Mitchell81 · 15/05/2009 09:28

Lou do you have a link to where you got that info?

lou031205 · 15/05/2009 15:31

Yes, sure, it is www.hmrc.gov.uk/RATES/taxcredits.htm
