Help regarding part 4 of proposed statement

Hello All,

I have received DS's proposed statement and am not sure what to do about part 4 Appropriate school or other arrangements. DS is 3.8 has CP and is globally delayed. He currently has a privately funded placement at a wonderful nursery and has come on leaps and bounds since starting there 6 months ago. The LEA have agreed to fund a one to one for the hours he is at nursery, however will not fund the placement. The setting that they will provide is completely inappropriate for DS, aside from offering one to one they have completely ignored my views and the views of the professionals involved with DS. It would be extremely detrimental to move DS to a setting that clearly would not meet his needs especially now that he is settled and I am going to appeal this decision.

My question is that Part 4 of the proposed statement regarding school arrangements has been left blank. Should I request that the LEA include the details of the setting they have agreed to provide on this part so that I can then make it clear that I don't agree? On the parental agreement form they sent I had ticked the "child to remain at present school part" as he is already attending nursery. Sorry for waffling on, hope this makes sense just don't want to do anything that is going to make it harder to appeal their decision. Am trying to contact IPSEA but can't get through....Any advice gratefully received x

You ask for the place that you want...then if they put the other place in Part 4 on the final statement, you can appeal it.

yes you choose a school and if they choose different you have to appeal and put your case forward as to why you want that school

for eg you may choose sn school they may put ms

make sure all of part 2 and 3 are correct just had ds statement and it is all very b=vague sounding no real explanations as to who or how they will help him or how often or if 1-1 etc

so having to appeal his ASD but still ive been told its quite common for these areas to not sound right

You need to contact the LEA in writing within 15 days stating that you disagree with the Statement and wish to meet them to discuss it.

You should look carefully at the 'professionals' reports that accompanied the Statement (the Annexes) and highlight any areas of support they have suggested but which you think the LEA have tried to ignore or water down (to avoid having to give the correct (expensive) level of support.

You need to get part 2 - the difficulties completely stated so that sufficient support is provided in part 3 - support that can only be delivered by the school / placement YOU want - which you should tell the LEA you want written into Part 4.
They'll object so you'll need to keep battling them.
Good luck.

Thank you! This is a great help, it is much clearer to me now. I feel like I am doing this all on my own as don't know who to speak to for help or advice and don't want to make any mistakes as this is so important. Thank God for Mumsnet

The LEA have told me that they are going to state "parents are making their own arrangements" in part 4 of the statement. Are they allowed to do this??? I thought that they had to list either the setting that I wanted or the setting they were willing to offer...I feel like they are trying to word things to make it difficult for me to appeal..Feeling stressed....
