My dd 4 has been on trimethiprim for 3 years for recurrent infections, we try every may time to bring her off it to see if her immune system has strengthned any. Anyway she usually ends up straight back on it due to picking up infections. We took her off it 5 weeks ago and so far no infection (fingers crossed), however have noticed a real change in her behaviour, lots of tantrums, lashing out, her rituals have become more severe, she has no emotions towards others. The nursery where she has been really settled have noticed the change and she has been hitting out at children and staff - in short she has changed completely, brief history she is being assessed for aspergers or possible epilepsy or both, as well as having other medical probs.
Was just wondering if anyone has experience of this? The gp said today maybe the trimethiprim has been masking aspergers behaviour? Any advice appreciated cos her behaviour is terrible and i am at my wits end.
