I work in a reception class as a 1-1 support. One of our little boys (not the 1 I support) has visual and hearing problems anlong with CP. He also struggles with speach but is doing very very very very well.. He is constantly talking and his speach is getting clearer. As with any child where you are trying to build speech up he says "a cow " you say "tahts right it is abig cow" ect to build on the language. Now today we had a visit from the hearing imppared woman who got cross with him and kept repeatily shouting at him to say what was in the pricture. She then asked his 1-1 to back behaind do he couldnt see her. For over an hour she was there shouting thing like " Now tell me what this is" She even suggested that he didnt have his milk and fruit which tehy usually have mid morning to keep going. At this his TA said no that he needed a break. Is that any way to teach a gourouse little boy who is only 5? She also said he was very stoubn and needed to start to do as he was told.

It sounds as though the hearing imparired woman is in the wrong job.

I take it you mean the woman who was working with children with hearing impairments?

I would complain to her manager immediately - that's a bloody disgrace - what a bully

anonandlikeit · 11/05/2009 18:26

I would be very angry if ANY prof working with my child treated him in such an awful way.
Soemtimes children do need pushing a little but bullying is just not on, poor boy.
Do his parents know?

thecloudhopper · 11/05/2009 18:54

yes sorry she works with him because she si from the hearing impared team. I don't know if his parents know. Would you want to?

Yes, I would want to know, especially if the childs communication isn't great & not likely to be able to tell the parent himself.
was the chld upset by her behaviour?
Before you say anything it may be worth checking that the boys TA hasn't already compalined to the head or SENCO & informed the parents.

I'm afraid I would report this person and ask for another member of the team to support in future.

Ye I know his 1-1 will do what she sees as best. Not good when this woman is a "Expert"
