Hi - I am trying to find a "cheap" buggy for my daughter who has some mobility problems. She can walk quite well but only for short periods of time. Would prefer to buy second hand but don't know where to go? Help??

have you spoke to physio ot see if they can refer youfor one

misscutandstick · 11/05/2009 17:30

Health Visitor can also refer you for wheelchair services - doesnt have to be a w/c, they do big buggies too.

5inthebed · 11/05/2009 19:55

Yes, speak to your HV. You can get a Maclaren Major for free from wheelchair services.

Greyscottie · 12/05/2009 08:28

Thank you - will speak to HV. Had already spoken to physio with no joy. Many thanks for all your responses.

Does anyone know if the major reclines. DD is being shown 2 buggies next week, the major and the tomato jogger, but as she has a lot of seizures (and then sleeps) she would have to be able to sleep in it.

monstermansmum · 12/05/2009 23:11

hello again . The maclaren doesnt recline at all, its also no good if your dd rocks as its not very stable, especially for older children. Not seen the Tomato Jogger so cant say much about it other than its got a daft name!!! There are a few buggys now that recline but from experience you need something that is comfortable and offers some support Ds's first SN buggy was a Tom x country. here. We now have an Ormesa Clip 4. here has a good selection of everything!! Just had a look at the special tomato stuff-I like the pushchair better than the 3 wheeler

5inthebed · 12/05/2009 23:13

The major doesn't recline I'm afraid. The only flaw in the desing tbh.

Phoenix4725 · 13/05/2009 06:28

we got the convaid i think its called and thatdoes recline which I use for the bus or if in car with a small boot orotherwise he uses his wheelchair

SJisontheway · 13/05/2009 09:01

Thanks a million. I'll have some more suggestions if the others aren't suitable. I think budget will be a big factor though - it's getting more and more difficult for equipment to be approved here.

ilovesprouts · 13/05/2009 09:08

i like my mac major elite its just a shame it does not recline

Phoenix4725 · 13/05/2009 10:27

now is a good time to put in we saw them near end of march and she was going sit on it to first of april

We still use the Maclaren major eventhough DD has wheelchair, otto bock kimba spring and Axiom 3 wheeler. Maclaren is by far the smallest and lightest. My DD can still sleep in it even though it doesn't recline.
