I want to apply for direct payments and loathe a social worker coming to my home, but i need the help.

anyone advise what kind of things they ask? Will they get 'personal'? I hate these people knowing my business.

thanks

It was personal in terms of how many hours do you work, do you get family support etc. She observed my daughter when she came in from school and watched her play with her sister and tried to ask her a few questions.

It wasn't too bad and I felt the report was quite fair. We got 2 hours a week initially and this was upped to 5 a few years later at a review.

thanks people. i know there are two kinds of direct payments - one for the carer and one based on the cared for?

which one did you all get and is the carers assessment the same no matter what?

also did they want to see your house, bedrooms, etc?

(have to paint)

thanks for the great responses. i think i might go for it

Not sure about 2 kinds of direct payments. Ours is paid at a rate of approx £9 per hour but we get it each quarter so not too sure. I think sometimes it's a higher rate for overnight respite.

The SW didn't inspect the house, questions about if you own or rent etc.

Do go for it, I was also wary but even if you initially get a couple of hours it's there to build up and it's useful to be in the system. It can take a while to set up and you have to open a direct payments bank account. We use ours for all sorts of things, horse riding, paying for parts of holiday, carer, days out (in part!) car parks and this seems to be ok.

we just had ours and yes they wanted to look round house was like at the state of house and ds1 ds2 bedroom.

am waiting to hear back but he gave me long lists of things that he reckons i should be doing then went on to say it looks like he wont meet our crieta for help .

they asked about relationships with my exh ,contact my parents etc . did find they made me feel like was being judged when they come again im ready for any of their inquistive questions only reason i wanted them involved is i need some adaptions done to the hous efor ds3 and is only way of getting the council to agree to
