Along similar lines, did your child with GDD close or widen the gap with time?

DD1 is now 3.4 years, and was first seen with falls/delay in October last year when she was 2.10. Although she has progressed in some ways, i.e. can now draw in a rough circular way, when she used to just scribble, vocab has increased, etc., she is still in need of full 1:1 in preschool, and the last letter from the inclusion coordinator noted 'no improvement in behaviour', etc.

It got me thinking that GDD does imply that eventually that development will come.

But did your child with GDD start to close the gap as time went on, or did you find that they became more delayed as time went on?

DD starts school next September, and we will need to start thinking about what is appropriate for her.

ds is 3.9 and we have dx of gdd,hes between 18months and 2 years behind, For me I can see the gap widening, yes he is improving but his peers are to faster than he can ever hope to catch up .

I tend to think more of him having learning diffculties now than a delay ,though he is delayed .Maybe because hes carrying couple of other label to he has dx of hypermoblity which in his case is gentic and hypertonia.

They now stopped calling his laungage a delay and say he now has a SLI ,as thats more delayed than the rest.

As for school since you dd is needing 1-1 ,It might be worth you thinking about statements and even start thinking about schools think I startd looking when ds was 3 ,though part of that was knowing that he was due to start this year .

Thanks, phoenix. I am in contact with the inclusion co-ordinator, & pane are aware of DD. I think they want to see what she is like next term, as she will be approaching 4 then. The IO and I had a long chat in March, & a loose timeplan was laid out then.

I think I am just a little confused as to whether DD is meant to improve, stay the same or widen the gap. Every time she makes progress I think "Wow, perhaps we got this wrong". Then I am confronted by just how different to her peers she is.

Her friend who lives on the next street is 9 months older than her, and plays out with her friends! We still have stair gates across the porch door, and the kitchen door, top and bottom of stairs, and her bedroom for her safety. We can't even let her go to the bathroom on her own because she floods it with water.

were having the same discussion on another thread come and join us theres a few of us in same boat.

ds is improving but then again so are his peers so the gap is always there and in some way sems to widen .

Ds does not play out except in garden which is fully secured and i can see from my lounge.

we to have stair gates up ,locks on doors, and yes he would flood bathroom to .

is your dd delayed in several areas ?

I will join you all, just didn't want to hijack it

Yes, she was assessed in October using Griffiths' and she was 18mths delay social interaction, 12 mths in both gross & fine motor, 8 mths expressive and receptive language (Reynell used for that).

But to be honest, the consultant sees her in a much better light in his small room than she is. Once at preschool, without 1:1 she is lost, both physically & functionally.
