AQ test

I had been curious about this. I did it from the Autistic Research Centre website (registering DS to volunteer for projects and stuff, but parent has to register too). And scored 5, which is a bit pathetic (average for women should be 13). Anyone else done it??

I registered, and tried the personality test, maybe I am tired, but I was completely bamboozled with the logic of some of the questions - there were too many negatives something like
I rarely I do not do x - agree/disagree..I couldn't work out whether it was an agree or disagree..

5 is a low score! Well done !

I've had to do these as part of one of the formal diagnostic procedures. Seen the EQ and SQ ones as well?

Madsadlibrarian, yes the questions are very tricky to answer indeed, and some are phrased in ways that very literal people like me answer quite wrongly unless we're thinking about it very carefully.

I did it and scored 45.

Aha! (She says, in a definitely-not-a-diagnosis-of-any-kind sort of way)

I don't like to score low... I've been thinking maybe it means I'm a kind of too-eager-to-please pushover?? A conformist social chameleon (as opposed to DS with ASD being a free spirit and all that)? The questions were basically the same three questions being reformulated again and again though

I do wonder what would have been the official line back in the early 90s when there was not much known about HFA/AS. Back then I was labled as EBD.

Any chance of a link folks?

jjones · 01/05/2009 00:33

I scored 34

www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.12/aqtest.html is a link to an online version of the AQ test eqsq.com/ is an online version of the related EQ and SQ tests.

AQ for general autism spectrum characteristics
SQ looks at how structured your life is
EQ looks at how empathetic and naturally caring you are with others.

None of these are diagnostic - they're just ways to start a conversation with a doctor or expert to find out what, if anything, people might have as a final diagnosis. But a typical individual with an ASD will have an AQ score over 32, and an empathy score less than 30, plus many have a higher SQ score. Plus lots of other factors that are not on these quizzes at all.

www.gregcons.com/KateBlog/content/binary/eqsq.gif This is the only online graph I can quickly find, but the SQ line normally goes from 0 to about 130 on the bigger SQ-R question set, rather than stopping at 80, so you'll have to do a bit of calculation and guesswork on where you are on this graph for the SQ score. It gives you an idea, anyway. Extreme empathisers tend to be women, extreme systemisers tend to be men (or people with an ASD! ("ASC" on that chart).

Thanks amber for the very helpful explanation. I knew about the wired site (and have given links for it elsewhere on mumsnet) but didnt know it was called the AQ test!

Amber I would like to ask you a question if I may? I shall start another thread so as not to hijack this one!
