I found it thought-provoking and wondered what you all thought?

pointydog · 28/04/2009 22:42

just found it all very emotional really

emkana · 28/04/2009 22:43

I cried so much when the girl with spina bifida had he holy communion thing - could so feel what an enormous sense of pride her family must feel.

Seeing Hamish, the boy with dwarfism, gives me mixed feelings (ds has dwarfism) - great to see him so active and doing so well, but didn't like the playground scenes and not looking forward to all that.

sphil · 28/04/2009 22:56

I find it very hard to watch but I think it's an excellent programme.

meltedmarsbars · 28/04/2009 22:57

I found it very hard to watch, a lot of similar experiences which to non-sn parents are probably totally alien.

I also found it hard to watch, especially seeing the gaps between the children and their peers widening as they got older. It was very emotional, I agree.
But it was so lovely to see Shelbie so well recovered from her op.

emkana · 28/04/2009 23:05

Shelby's mother looked like she might be pregnant again.

siblingrivalry · 28/04/2009 23:07

Yeah, I thought that too -tried to get another look, but couldn't see! Will find out next week, I expect.
How old is your ds,emkana?

emkana · 28/04/2009 23:10

My ds is 2.10, so not aware of being different yet, but it's becoming gradually obvious to other people, even though most just think he's younger than he is.

siblingrivalry · 28/04/2009 23:16

I just sneaked a look at your profile -he is absolutely gorgeous! My dds also have bright blue eyes, I wish I could say they inherited them from me

Phoenix4725 · 29/04/2009 03:45

emkana
you ds is gorgeous
and i second those eyes

And yes think for me to was seeing just how much the peer gap is growing kinda hit home

devientenigma · 29/04/2009 11:34

It's funny my DD (11) also said Shelbies mum looked pg.

anonandlikeit · 29/04/2009 12:47

It was both Sad & so positive.

Poor Lady, I hope Shelbies mum isn't reading this, what if she isn't pregnant but (like me) had one pie too many

MatNanPlus · 29/04/2009 14:31

I noticed Shelbies mum was behind the screen when they did the x-rays and hubby thought in the latter stages of the programme that she might be expecting.

I was hard to see Hamish so upset in the playground, when he won't say how old he was i suspected it was due to be disbelieved by children in the past, tho does he evey wear shoes

Nathan is certainly a live wire and William is a charmer.

I hope the operation on Zoe does her some good.

Emily's communion was emotional.

Roll on next week when they turn nine

LollipopViolet · 29/04/2009 17:16

I've not got kids yet but found it hard to watch. When it showed next week and Zoe's operation I was like, "Noooo!" when they said her muscle wasn't good enough, really hope it does some good.

lourobert · 29/04/2009 17:45

I loved it and promised myself I wouldnt be upset but I did......!!!

The bits that stuck out for me was the two nans at the holy communion and they were talking about the point of dx and how as grandparents they just wanted to make it better and take it all away from the parents (their children), but they couldnt. I remember my mum saying exactly the same thing to me!!

The other bit was Williams nan talking about how wonderful William was but how pleased she was that they had gone on to be able to enjoy the experience of a 'normal' child too. Made me a little as Im not if I will ever have that experience!

unfitmother · 29/04/2009 18:38

I enjoyed it too, only cried a couple of times! I love Shelbie's mum.

FabulousBakerGirl · 29/04/2009 18:39

I watched it with my heart in my mouth and was just relieved no children died. I was so worried about Shelbie.

I think Shelbie's Mum and her step father are incredible.

FabulousBakerGirl · 29/04/2009 18:41

I have read next weeks Radio Times and there is bad news for one of the parents. (health related, not child)

Tissues next week I am sure.

lottiejenkins · 29/04/2009 19:07

I know what thats about but wont spill the beans..............

FabulousBakerGirl · 29/04/2009 19:09

Me neither.

5inthebed · 29/04/2009 19:39

I really enjoyed catching up with the kids, they have all grown up so lovely since we saw them last.

My heart was in my throat when Shelbie was in hospital, I cried when she came home.

Hamish and the playgroud was also upsetting.

Nathan and William are so much taller, and both livewires. I always feel so sorry for Williams mam having to take the brunt of his lashing out.

DJAngel · 29/04/2009 22:46

I was in bits from the start and just really felt for all the parents.. Our dd age 3 has Tuberous Sclerosis - the same condition as William and I found that really hard to watch. It was heartbreaking to see his Mum struggling.. I was also really moved by the two grandmothers talking and getting tearful remembering being told.. My Mum gets so upset and worried about me as well if not more than her granddaughter and very frustrated that she can't fix it. Just as I feel so powerless that I can't fix stuff for dd. Oh and if anyone saw my post last week her fractured elbow recovering really well!
Looking forward to next weeks prog..

chegirl · 29/04/2009 23:07

I love this programme and have followed it from the beginning. It is fascinating to see how different parents come to terms with their children's differences. It is not always the families with the most severe disabilities that have the lowest lows (badly put but I cant seem to get my words out tonight).

The children are all wonderful. I think about Shelbie every so often and wonder how she is doing.

I like the way they have looked at families from different backgrounds and I feel the programme is not edited for maximum heart wrenching/judgement inducing/ cuteness which is a breath of fresh air. Most documentaries now days seem to want to ramp up the viewers emotions to a ridiculous level and try and influence how you SHOULD feel.

I have a child with learning disabilities and had a daughter who was very ill. I also work with children with disabilities so the programme so I find the programme very interesting.

ouryve · 29/04/2009 23:56

I've watched this since the original series was on when I was pregnant with my first and I've always needed the tissues nearby. I couldn't do it then, but a glass of wine to sob into helps, too. I'd best stock up at the weekend.

anniebear · 30/04/2009 08:06

I thought Shelbies Mum look v pregnant!!
