have you applied for dla? we got ours on the basis of receiving higher rate mobility element of dla. It's then an automatic entitlement.
Luckily ds1 doesn't mind photos, but I'm sure someone else can help you with that one.

yes we have one

They let you take a 'normal' photo and then cut it to size. They have to be 'sort of' looking at the camera but they are not that strict 9well not as strict as passports iykwim)

We also get one for our dd3 because she gets high rate mobility from dla. You can get forms from your local council, just ring and ask. If you don't get high rate mobility you can ask a doctor to do a supporting letter. Hth

We have one for my daughter, we only get low rate mobility but it was initially signed by her paed. and now by the gp on renewals. Not strict at all with the photo and use a cut down 'normal' one too.

some councils have them online for you to print out, or an online form request facility.

Hi we got one from the age of 2 on the grounds he can not walk. Then from 3 with high rate mobility.
They usually accept any photo as long as it can be cut down to passport size, so we use photos took in the house.

We got one quite recently - filled in the form and they in turn contacted our GP. The GP then rang me to clarify things - we were claiming on the basis of ds2's asd - no mobility issues - he's a runner iykwim. She was extremely supportive and we got the badge - I was quite surprised but delighted!

DS2's photo is dreadful, he looks like he has 5 o'clock shadow or should have had a part in the Godfather!

We have one, dd1 has CP and cannot walk unaided, and is always in a buggy when out and about. She gets higher rate DLA.

We don't actually have a car.......! But a friend often offers to help out with hospital visits etc, and the blue badge is invaluable there.

misscutandstick · 23/04/2009 18:42

reading with great interest - DS5 is 3 next month and dreading filling the DLA forms out YET AGAIN when we only did it a year ago, just to get mobility part - really just for a blue badge: DS5 is a runner too, DS4 'wanders', and DS1 is ADHD and has his own agenda... then DS2 and DS3 tend to follow! its like fish herding!!! honestly some days its just impossible!

We also (just to make things interesting) have a bright yellow minibus to seat them all and all paraphinalia, which is the devil itself to park in a busy carpark, but necessary to keep everyone separated and seated safely. But usually resigned to park in the nether regions the furthest away from the shops, where the holding on to as many kids as possible and fish herding begins!

Sorry for the rant

we got one for dd just after her 2nd birthday. She has CP and can't walk. No problem at all, just had to get GP to sign the form and confirm she can't walk. We did do a photo, at Sainsbury's key cutting section weirdly, a little man came out and took a photo of dd who was being held at arms length above my head (luckily dd still quite small then) - she looks like a total loon as had been crying so much earlier that whole face red and puffy and her top had a huge wet patch from all the dribble. . Luckily the badge goes photo side down when you display it

J got one at 5/6. He only got low rate mobility then, but the psychiatrist wrote a supporting letter and we got it.
