Went to see our HV yesterday but she was on holiday and our old one was back. We had a falling out before she left before and she was a bit off with me, but she mentioned that DS might be dyspraxic, but because I didnt feel comfortable being there I didnt ask much about it - we spoke about his shite diet and I left.

I have looked it up but it doesnt seem very clear, so could someone help me out by explaining exactly what it is.

TIA

have you looked at the Dyspraxia Foundation website? V clear info

I think that a HV can't diagnose, you would need to see a paedriatrician

Hopefully someone with more experience than me will be along to help you

For a while i thought dd1 may have Dyspaxia, she has Aspergers but a lot of the traits are the same as ASD's. We thought dd may have it as she is very slow on her feet and seems to have low muscle tone in her arms and legs (she cant run fast, climb and took a while before she would jump with 2 feet).

Offten ASD and dyspraxia overlap.

Dd1 didn't fit into all the traits as she doesn't fall over a lot, her pencil skills are great, she has sense of danger (maybe too much), she has a huge imagination, has no language problems and is very creative.

Hi,

I'm a childrens OT. Dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder (the names can be interchangable depending on who you talk to) essentially are coordination difficulties. Dyspraxia specifically is a problem planning movements. They can be caused by a number of reasons and the problems caused vary massivly from child to child depending on the reason and the severity. If you are concerned ask your GP to refer you to a paediatrician or childrens occupational therapist for a full assessment and appropriate advice. You can google it and get lots of info but don't be alarmed as lots probably won't apply. Hope that helps.

Otali would you be able to tell me if a VMI test could indicate Dyspraxia or the severity of it and if so what range of standard scores or percentile ranks would an indication of a difficulty in this area fall in?

Thanks everyone.

I will speak to our Paed about it. I know that dyspraxia and ASD overlap, but TBH I just thought that DS is just a bit more clumsy than most!
