hi, i have read your threads about lack of sleep before as i've been lurking for a while, and was in a similar situation to you (and MN ing at stupid oclock!)
we had a 6 wk trial of melatonin from paed and its fab! it makes such a difference to actually be able to function in the day time espescially when you've got other dcs. not quite sure what we are supposed to do when it runs out as it was just to get him into a proper sleep routine, but theres no way i could go back to how it was before!
i'd demand that the paed gives you something, tell him you aren't coping with the lack of sleep and that its affecting all the family.
Alternatively you could always try ebay ,which i'll be doing if he won't prescribe me any more!

My paed is trying to talk me in to using melatonin, for some reason & I don't know why, i'm reluctant to start.
DS2 has a crap sleep pattern & after discussing it at his last assessment she asked for a sleep diary for a week. I sent the sleep diary & she wrote back saying she recommends melatonin.

Could you write to your paed with a weeks sleep diary & ask for something to help.

Just wanted to recomed melatonin - it has been great for us and don't know how we'd manage without it. It's a naturally ocurring hormone so not a sedative or anything. We had no side effects either.

It can be bought over the counter in the US - but I know some makes are more reliable than others. If you know anyone that travels it would be very easy for them to pick it up in a pharmacy and cheap enough too, but just research the brands first. It's great for getting them to sleep - not so good for keeping them asleep so the night wakings could still be a problem - they are for us, but so much bette rthan before
