Can't help but bumping it up for you.

My ds was initially assessed by 'bog standard' SS - and his case closed because he had no 'unmet needs' . After much letter writing, we had another assessment....during which I got angry and they agreed to refer me to the Children's Disability Team (which deals with SN kids). Eventually, we were given help.

I never had a Carer's Assessment because every time I met with SS or had correspondence from them, it was made abundantly clear that my needs and our needs as a family were an irrelevance; in fact, I was made to feel as though I didn't deserve any help (a friend had a very similar experience too ).

I would push to have your ds referred to the Children's Disability Team and don't wait for them to call you but remember, phones bad, letters good.

You will have to be persistent, tenacious and resilient because it's a fight to the finish.

Manny- if you request a carer's assessment they have to do one by law.

As soon as the SS start an assessment of your child's needs they must offer you an assessment of your own needs as a carer. My son has just had an SS assessment and I was offered one.

You need to have an idea of what you think SS could provode in the way of help, such as respite care for your child etc.

Unfortunately budgets are so tight within local authorities that unless you press hard you are unlikely to get offered much (if anything) at all.
