Am I over thinking things, is our paed crap, is his SENCO wrong?

I'm at a loss about DS. He is 3.5, his speech is still very very far behind, he has repetitive behaviours, he's violent, he runs away whenwe are out.

I just feel overwhelmed, we have been 'in the system' for almost a year now and are getting nowhere. His SENCO says he is fine, just shy.

As a example of his behaviour, he just climbed up, took a jar of coffee from the cupboard, poured it all over the living room, then poured milk all over it. All in the time it took me to take DD to the bathroom and change her. His reaction to me was to hit me in the face repeatedly shouting 'bah bah bah bah'.

I've had the worst of days, sorry to be moany. But why are we not getting any support?

Oh, poor you ... sounds a really shite day Where have you been 'in the system' out of interest ? Were they referrals via nursery or your GP ?

Thankyou for listening.

We were referred by HV at our own request as we had concerns. Since had two useless Paed appts, a speech and language assessment which was useless too, then referred to 'language ladder' which was full of far younger children and the aims were 'taking turns', 'learning songs',etc, all this he can do.

He's also had bloods and hearing tests done, all fine.

He has real issues, but I fear he doesn't fit into any of their tick boxes and so we are drifting, it's horribly sad.

Oh and they sent Portage out to our house twice to 'talk' before deciding we didn't need them. What a waste of resources.

Poor you, that is a really, really bad day! DS2's needs are different so I can't be of much help unfortunately but wanted to offer a bit of sympathy.

It clearly isn't normal behaviour though imo.

Hope you get some decent help soon.

We had the special needs health visitor out today and she had little to say. She did have time to comment about my teeth though and make me feel like shit (as I posted a thread about)

Oh I read your other thread but didn't put the two together. Bloody hell what is wrong with some people, I'm sure it was an off the cuff comment not meant to hurt, but I'm sure it did none the less.

I hope your children will be in bed soon and you will be able to relax and unwind a litte. Tomorrows a new day and all that!

This is exactly what my DS did at his age before he was diagnosed with autism. He wasn't allowed to attend school until he had a statement of special educational needs.

What did the paediatrician actually say? He or she should be referring him to a psychologist - or local child development centre if you have one - on the double, as it sounds as if he's going to need learning support in reception in the next year or so.

If it would be any help, I am happy to e-mail you some advice I had for DS at a similar age from SALT. Do you have CAT?
