Shells · 06/04/2009 03:41

So so so depressing and crap and unacceptable.

jjones · 06/04/2009 09:09

That is a disgrace. One little ray of hope though is that the news report that we are all facing problems from our LEA regards funding.

meggymoosmum · 06/04/2009 10:04

Completely unacceptable. It makes me sad that this is reality

ICANDOTHAT · 06/04/2009 10:22

A bloody disgrace ! Shambles, cover-up, closing ranks, shite, shite, shite !

cyberseraphim · 06/04/2009 10:27

Not surprising but let's hope he can use his position to publicise the fact that this is more or less standard practice for the 'professionals'

Widemouthfrog · 06/04/2009 10:55

Scary! Would I have the resources to fight this if it happened to us !

jenk1 · 06/04/2009 14:11

Very very interesting.

This happened to us with dd,she was dx,d with ASD after an assessment by the CDC,then miraculously they found a cure after 3 days and hey presto she no longer had it!!!

we are fighting CAMHS now for a dx,i may well print off that story and take it along to our next meeting and ask for their thoughts on it!!!!

That is disgusting, makes me feel so sad. Redbridge is right next to Essex, they tried the same thing on my 4 year old, I stopped attending appointments. My 6 year old's school tried to do the same thing and challenged the cons psych who diagnosed him, but he didn't change his mind, luckily.
It is diabolical and it does happen to lots of children all the time. In Redbridge, there is a practice of underdiagnosing, because there is no provision, especially for higher functioning autists. For those with classic autism, the provision is dire, and a diagnosis is like gold-dust, especially before nursery age. I had to fight for my 4 year old, it was a nightmare.
I an not surprised, but so angry.

Bl**dy hell. How outrageous is that?

SheWhoMustBeIgnored · 06/04/2009 15:05

fooking hell ds1 was refereed to that hospital the paed said he did not have classic autism just some traits but because we live in another county he was re-referred to another paed in the county we live.
how glad am i !!!!!!!!!!!have still printed it off though

The newsreader's case just publicises what we al know happens evry day. It's a consequence of the LEA, through the Statement process, being the identifier and assessor of SENs, an then having to find the money to provide for them i.e. the LEA is judge, jury and excutioner.

The Paed should be struck off. Our local Paed actually told us that she's not allowed to make specific recommendations regarding schooling in SEN cases - the LEA didn't like it!

vjg13 · 06/04/2009 20:08

It is so disheartening. Why should parents have to turn their lives upside down and fight so hard. Not everyone has that kind of strength (or money).

anonandlikeit · 06/04/2009 20:13

If the LEA are involved in a dx there is an obvious conflict of interest.
DX should be etirely based on the child & not influenced by budget..

Ohh look another flying pig

jg3kids · 06/04/2009 20:28

Hi

I went to a seminar run by Reasearch Autism in the autumn of last year and a GP (who funny enough was from Essex) said that if the GP referred child to paed for assesment then the surgery would foot the bill. If however the child wasn't assessed til school then the lea would fit the bill.
From pillar to post folks.....

Bloody disgrace, and will get worse

Was not at all surprised to see Essex as a county being named in this article.

Small wonder therefore IPSEA gets so many complaints about them. After Herts, Essex is second on their list in terms of level of complaints levelled against their county's LEAs.
