I need some reassurance

DS2 has been throwing up when in bed for the past two nights. No temp,no bug and doesn't smell really nasty like the bug sick does (iykwim). He has been sound a sleep when he has done it, and very shaken afterwards. He had the jitters for a good 10 mins afterwards. He has had "nighttime" sickness a few times, but we have always put it down to a bug, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm starting to wonder if there is anything else behind him being sick? He doesn't have a cough, but each time he has been sick it ha sounded like he has a bad cough.

Now the thing that is going through my head is "has he had a fit?". Please someone reassure me that this isn't the case . He ha never had a fit before, but the vomiting and shakes have me a bit worried. Does anyone elses DC with ASD do this?

Is it worth raising it with Paed on Thursday?

DS has nightime seizures and wakes very confused and disorientated afterwards, but he has never vomited.

Has he got a bad throat? I know my DS2 gagged in his sleep during a recent throat infection, which then made him retch.

Sorry I can't offer any more useful advice, but didn't want to leave you unanswered.

It certainly does not harm to mention this to the paed.

Thanks WMF. I'm going to phone someone tomorrow, just not sure who yet. He has just been sick again, gets himself all worked up. I'm off to bed now, its going to be a long night I think.

I would mention it as....... I found out that being sick is a normal thing to happen after a fit.

definitely worth mentioning. I would have thought it could possibly be cataarh/dripping nose related - as lying down makes the catarh worse iyswim.

My son has acid reflux which makes him sick in the night - and sounds like a cough even though he dosnt have one.
Hope you find an answer.

Dd1 AS seems to do this once a year , we always put it down to a bug but this year no one else around her had a bug , when she is sick its always in the night, usualy starts with coughing and then she has the shakes for 10 minutes after.

Worth checking it out i think.

How is DS this morning 5intheEgg? Hope you got some sleep.

5intheEgg · 06/04/2009 11:05

DS2 is fine this morning, a bit tired and melt downish, but no sickness. He was only sick twice last night.

I will definitely mention it to the paed on Thurs, thanks everybody for your replies.

I was wondering last night if that is what it it. My DH says I'm being too dramatic about it, but I do think there is more to it. I'll mention it to him, possibly show him this post as well.

Thanks Fio

Yes, Fio - my DS's epilepsy diagnosis hit me harder than his ASD one, but the reality for us is that controlled by medication we largely don't have to worry about it. It is always better to know what is happening.

So why does it only happen at night then? Seems a bit strange. Probably something to do with the brain not shutting down/shutting down too much. It all baffles me. I really hope it isn't epilepsy, was hoping ds2 wouldn't get that side of ASD.

Sorry Riven, I didn't mean to make light of epilepsy - I had you in mind even as I typed, but I didn't want to scare the OP. Obviously for you and DD it is hell, but hopefully 5inthebed is not facing this, if she is facing epilepsy at all.

Sorry Riven, I know your DD has epilepsy, and it sounds very hard for you when she has an attack. I value your advice on this. I have an appointment with paed on Thursday, so will wait til then. I have tried to call GP today, but for some reason their phone is constantly engaged.

I am not sure whether it is epilepsy or not, but I don know that children with ASD can have epilepsy.

I know it isn't a bug, as it only happens when ds2 goes to bed. He is fine when going to bed, fine in the morning. Was speaking to DH last night about it, and it has happened a few times in the past where we thought it was a bug, but perhaps not as nobody else in family has been ill. It also doesn't smell like acid reflux sick iykwim.
He doesn't have asthma, nobody in my family does. When he has been sick, he has been asleep before hand. All I hear is a sudden cough and gag and then ds2 screaming and crying. He doesn't understand what is happeneing, and he can't stop being sick once it happens.

Sorry, just rambling, but I am concerned. I just wish DH would take it a bit more seriously.
