i have an asd child and one non sn child, money is tight but i want to make easterfun for them, and hopefully the weather will be dry at least.

2 weeks is long for any asd child without the routine of school etc, does anyone have any fav day out etc that they feel have worked for them?

we were thinking of going camping for 2 days just to break it up a bit, she seems to respond well to the outdoors.

My 7yo ASD DS loves trains, and the local train service is doing an offer, so we'll probably ride out somewhere on a train. He STILL goes on about going to Norwich on a trip he made 2 years ago!

hunnybun1981 · 06/04/2009 09:11

Hi Hunnybun

I am also in NI

There are a few good places to go camping - although it's raining at the moment (typical NI weather!).

Gosford - it's like a country park - haven't been but heard really good things about it.

Tullymore Forest Park in Newcastle - it's great for a weekend and there's a nice beach.

I also think that PAPA organise outings now and again so you could check them out.

The Folk and Transport Museum is great although you have to pay in but our dc's love it - my DS2 is on the spectrum.

I've only done NI as a tourist so don't have the local knowledge that you do. DS enjoyed walking on the old wall around Derry.

Good luck with the cinema - it is something that we all enjoy doing (although expensive) - there's a lot on at the mo.

Also check out the children's magazine/paper that they get in school - the library normally have a copy - it usually has a list of what is on.

There's also a steam train that goes from belfast central to portrush at different times during the year. It's a good laugh.

have realised the tirck is to plan the holidays like a military operations. My DS copes better if he knows whats happening, unfortunately it does mean we do have to do outings in the rain as no last minute changes can be made without a huge amount of problems!
So far we have managed
MON: park and walk into village
TUES: huge park and picnic
WEDS: golf and visit to nannas
THURS: zoo
FRI: cinema and pizza hut
SAT: aunties house for day
SUN: cinema
MON/TUES:going to stay in hotel in skegness
WED: home, birthday party
THURS: cinema then haircut (eeeeek)
FRI: Our only unplanned day! so i reckon DVDs and computer games all day!
