just looking through the beast and it says in the notes about claiming you need childs ni number and to get in touch with local social security office. I thought you didnt get one until you were nearly 16 or am i being really thick.Do you have to get your lo,s or just leave it blank?

Its a number that they use on all correspondence with DLA. I'm not entirely sure but I think it's the same that will eventually be used for their national insurance number- same format- AB123456C. I don't think you are expected to know it before you apply if your child is under 16- I think they inform you when they write back. Not sure though.

I've literally just finished and sent mine off, and like you i couldn't find it anywhere either. It said in my notes to phone the local social security - which i did - who didn't know what on earth i was on about

I just left it blank so here's hoping....

They won't tell you the NI number, but expect you to know it, lol.

I phoned to ask for it, and they said they couldn't tell me! I left DD's blank and DD has just been awarded High rate care, so it didn't affect her application.

Her award notice has a reference number on it, though, and that must be her NI number, because it is in the format XY123456Z.

It took 7 weeks to receive a decision, which is half of what I was told by the advisor. Having said that, I did include lots of letters from different assessments, etc., so I presume that they didn't need to get further evidence from anywhere, which is what can take the time.

I've just looked at what I sent in, and the word count was 8150! so don't worry about how long it is.

I left it blank on my son's dla application, the acknowledgment letter had his freshly issued nino on and we had a grant of dla in just over two weeks, so would not worry about it.

meggymoosmum · 03/04/2009 16:12

I printed out 21 pages in the end, but i did use a seperate page for each 'part'. It took me about 4 weeks, dipping in and out and also two mammouth sessions. I also followed the cerebra guide. Keep at it, you'll be so relieved once its done

5intheEgg · 03/04/2009 16:19

They will put the NI number on any correspondence they send you after you send the form off

magso · 03/04/2009 18:34

I thought I got it off the child benefit letter but maybe that was a different number!

meggymoosmum · 03/04/2009 19:31

magso, they ask for your child benefit number on the second page, but your child's NI number on the first
