Hi Phoenix,

When DD had one at Southampton, they sat her on my lap and put a tweenies video on, as that is her favourite video. They also gave her some toys to play with. She did hate it, and to be honest I just had to hold her firmly on the chin and back of her head while she screamed.

Once it was on, they taped the wires together, and she got used to it. It takes longer to put the wires on than to do the test. Fortunately, for a standard EEG the wires are only attached with a paste, so they are easy to pull off once it is finished without too much trauma. The job then is to wash the paste out at home.

A 24 hour EEG is a little trickier, because they use a glue to put it on, and then acetone to remove it. DD wore a hat for several days after that one, despite having refused to wear hats until that point.

Hi phoenix,
DD has had a couple. She also hates having her head touched so getting all the probes on was a bit of an ordeal, but once they were on she was ok. They had a selection of dvd's and toys - or bring some of his favourites along yourself. it's fine to eat or drink during it too so you can bring along snacks or bottles or whatever. They don't have to stay particularly still, but once they are wired up there'll be no running around. DD stayed on my knee. For younger kids they like to get them to take a nap - no chance with dd so they made do with a fer periods of eye closure. Also they had a strobe light at the end. They video the whole thing so they can match up any episodes with the trace. It's not too bad. Best of luck

Oh - just thought of another tip I got from a friend. befor she brought her ds in they used to play at home, sticking bits of string to a dolls head with bluetac. This would go over dds head but may be helpful for your ds?
