Which route should I take to get a diagnosis?

I think ds1 may have aspergers so I went to see the GP about getting a referral for him.
The doctor seemed clueless so my son's EP said he'd refer him to CAHMS.I have since received an appointment with them for next month.

Yesterday the doctors receptionist rang me and said she's got a referral letter for my son to see a paed,so what should I do?

Do I keep my original appointment with CAHMS or go with the paed instead,or make appointments with both?

Just bumping this for you for those who might be a bit more in the know!

Speaking from my own experience, I'm going through the process with my DS2, but did it all through the GP who was pretty clueless too but referred me to the child psychiatrist at our local hospital who has since been very helpful.

I think I would be tempted to make both appointments but not sure if that is allowed!

I'd go with both .... you've been referred to them, so keep the appointments.

I wondered if they covered the same things or would they take different approaches I wasn't sure if both would be necessary that's why I wasn't sure what to do.
My GP was adamant that a paed wasn't the way to go and now he's sent me a referral letter.

I would keep both appointments particularly if the paed you are seeing is a developmental paed rather than a community paed.

CAMHS has had very mixed reviews on these pages when it comes to ASD.

Definately keep both - I was given such a runaround by CAMHS that it took from Y2 until Y7 for my DS2 to get his AS diagnosis! Good luck!

Keep both.
Your paed may well refer you to CAMHS/clinical Psychs anyway (or visa versa) as many areas diagnose by using multi agencies. It might help the process get to stage 2, where if a diagnosis is a possibility that a multi agency panel meet to decide on a diagnosis, a little quicker, if these services are already on the same page.
