After getting advice here, and using the cerebra guide, I requested a claim pack on 29/12/08.

They have written to me today, and DD (3.4) has been awarded HIGH RATE CARE!

I don't have to apply again until the day before her fifth birthday.

Thank you for advice. It is a good thing, but sad at the same time.

Well done

we were awarded mobility at last on Monday.

Bitter sweet isn't it?

Chocolatebunnyrabbit · 02/04/2009 15:07

Well done Lou. Good that you don't have to go through it all again for awhile.

Please please check the small print. We were awarded high rate three years ago and in tiny writing it said this would drop to middle rate after 12 months. I queried this and was told to appeal when the amount dropped. THIS WAS THE WRONG ADVICE. Apparently, I should have queried it at the start and am now in stage 3 of a horrendous battle. My son's needs have not changed - in fact his needs are greater. However I didn't have a crystal ball and couldn't have foreseen that things would get worse.

I don't mean to put a damper on things - it's great that they have awarded you what you need. This is just a warning to others so they don't have to go through the trauma we currently are.

cluttercup, so sorry to hear of your battle. No small print on my letter, so to speak. They will contact me again when DD is nearly 5, and ask if we want to apply for help with getting around, and I presume at that time we will also have to reapply for care component.

I have filled in the carers allowance form online and sent the evidence, so that is done, and phoned tax credits.

Peachy - glad to hear about the mobility, you deserve it.

Magso - I cried when I got the letter . I guess I would have cried more if it had been turned down, but still, I cried because she shouldn't need it, IYSWIM.

Pipinjo, hope you get your result soon. I requested the forms on 29/12, but didn't return them until just before the deadline on 06/02, and award letter was dated 27/03/09, so actually decision time has been 7 weeks, which is half of what the guy quoted me when I phoned to check that they had the form. I did put in every piece of paper I had about DD from every professional, though, and my supporting statement was from my good friend, who is also a worker at DD's preschool, so I guess it all ties together to show the overall picture.

Having said that, the evidence they say they based the decision on was just the form and a letter from the hospital, so I guess that said enough and they ignored the tree that went with it.
