What to do to get around if you have a SN child and a baby.

Our baby is due in 4 weeks. I was thinking about getting them both around and what is the most practical solution. Ds (ASD) will be 4 when baby is born he will just about fit into a Maclaren xt at the moment. He gets tired quickly and has a tendency to run off/stop walking/lie down as he feels. I was thinking buggy board but Im not sure who practical that will actually be. Any suggestions?

hiya, were trying for baby no 2, though been trying a long time so the plan keeps progresses but ds is in a major buggy and would never manage without so i would use a sling/carrier for however long that could last til about 6 months i guess then probably panic then as to what to do!!

option when babys able to sit up ,there si amaclaren major twin

I used one of these for a bit when ds3 was newborn. Really handy as an older child can stand on the step at the back an there is also a padded seat for them. It can be used from newborn, but only by using a car seat (it takes all carseats) so I only used it on short journeys.

I now use either a slning and ds2's major or a pram for ds3 and reins.

Ds2 is also a runner and I worried loads about it when I was pregnant with ds3. I would say I am managinf better than I thought I would.

Good luck.

I suppose a carrier is an option but Im only small and Ds was such a heavy baby- I used it about twice before putting it away. Maybe this baby wont be as heavy, who knows.

I used a close carrier which seemed to distribute bas's weight better than the ones I ahd before.

Funnily enough the lady I lent it to returned it yesterday: if you want it to borrow CAT me before In put it on Ebay next weekend - search for clsoe (its the red colour) see if you fancy it.

I second the close baby carrier. I've just bought one (2nd hand) as the one I had was a bog standard Tomy one and a killer as ds3 is 16+lbs.

Thanks for the offer peachy. I think the one we already have is pretty similar. I think Im just really unfit.

Hi staryeyed. I wasn't very good at slings either, as have a bad back. Although some are definitely better than others.

I went for the double buggy in the end, even though DS is nearly 5 now. And we still use it a lot. Its a lifesaver. I don't care what other people think, although I'm sure he's the only child that old in a buggy without official mobility problems. But he often won't walk, kicks off etc. etc. Its been a godsend.

Also I wouldn't recommend buggy boards (bad for back again) as too easy for child just to take off.
Good luck!

ooo that rider thing looks interesting I dont know how practical it would be- walking beside it.

OP posts:
5intheEgg · 31/03/2009 20:44

I had one, they are really good to walk alongside, but DS2 would only ride on it briefly then shoot off when the chance came. If you are going to anything, I'd say the buggyboard they can sit on would be your best bet as they are contained in that area iykwim.

hungryhippo21 · 02/04/2009 14:58

hi 5intheegg can you please remind me of the name of the sit on buggyboard as cant seem to get ebay page to work.
We have a graco stadium thingie at the mo (best £12 - on ebay I have ever spent ) but ds1 is getting to heavy for it which makes steering a bit of a problem. DS2 is 9 months, ds1 is ok with a standing buggy board but will run at any opportunity and steering the pushchair with buggyboard dragging cos you cant let go of ds1 to hook it up is a fecking nightmare. oh forgot you have to do that 1 handed as you have ds1 thrown over you shoulder ripping your hair out
someone needs to invent sn buggy with normal buggy attachment then life would be much easier and they would probably make a fortune (hmmm off to do so inventing)
