thankfully big sister was off sick so the wheelchair was at home

otherwise I suppose I would have been where I was with her 4 years ago, staggering up the road with a tall heavy child on my back

this is about the age it started for her

and he knows that

how do you push two wheelchairs at the same time?

(I can't drive)

at least I now know I made the right decision when I asked the GP to refer him last week

but I don't feel up to going through all that again

Will someone uncork that bottle???

I know it's not massive, it's just the thought of the logistics. And they'll want him to give up playing football. And I had set my heart on having one healthy child.

Another slug and I'll be fine. Really. Have to meet him in half an hour, complete with wheelchair and cheerful grin.

Me neither! I have problems with my knees. Thankfully I doubt I could be classified as having HMS, but my knees defo bend too far and caused a lot of pain when I was younger. My parents thought I was making it up, and it has been a relief to have an explanation now. Though I hate to think what ds1 goes through having that pain in most of his joints.

while we are on the topic can I jsut ask if anyone has experience of hypermobility in the pelvis? I really worry what kind of affect that will have on ds1 in the long term, as regards his posture and possibly his back.

ds suffer it in all his joints ,and when hes tired he slumps to the side a lot,no idea how will affect him long term as hes only 3.9 but in case the hypertonia adds another twist

forgot to add were looking at seeing if can get grant to change our garden to the rubber matting so that when he does fall will help lessen damage ,also brough a trampoline sotaht when he falls hes ok though he cant jump
not helped either ass he has no understanding taht something might hurt he has gdd and mld with asd traits

just popping back in the middle of house-cleaning to read your posts- thank you, ladies.

seems better now, and I think that's partly because she's gone through the puberty growth spurt and her body's a bit firmer; imagine she will need quite a bit of support if she decides to get pregnant when she's older though- but hopefully that's a long way off

chops, dd certainly has hypermobile hips and lower back. she has had times when she has been unable to sit up at all because of the pain, lost time off school etc;

her posture is better now than it was, she really used to slouch

her OT laid a lot of stress on sitting on the correct chair etc, and I think that helped her see that this was important

also doing ballet has definitely helped (that's why I signed up ds when I first began to suspect he was hypermobile)

phoenix- must be extra hard when a child doesn't understand danger, imagine you spend a lot of time with your heart in your mouth

my sympathies for you and your family, saddly this is one condition i know not of fist hand so ay advice is more paractical for the son.

regarding his friends; it might i say might be worth trying to let him hide it from them, they will findout swiftly and that is when chaff is sorted from grains, those who are real friends will ignore it as much as possible and attempt to adapt to deal with change in nature. Those who are not will upset him tease and leave, if he tells his friends the later is morelikly if they find out it is more likly they will see your son not a chair.

as or how hed hide a chair or keep it rom them i have noidea i know the aore happened with another persons continence situation but as i said ive never had any direct experiance with any mobility impairing disorders again my sympathys
