Riven, have you seen this wheelchair bike on Ebay?

one of those bikes with a wheelchair at the front, they reckon they used it from age 4 with a car seat

I am interested in this thread since I would love to find somewhere I could hire a special needs tagalong or two seater or similar so we could all go out riding as a family. We are going to Devon on holiday at Easter and there are a couple of places round there though the best seem in Cornwall. However came across this on my searches which may be of interest to Fio since it is in Kent.

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 18:53

what about this? you can put a child seat on the back as well...

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 18:56

planning any more?!

I don't know whether London recumbents would hire out for a longer period, saker. they are very helpful though, so might be worth giving them a call?

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 18:59

might be able to put a baby seat on this too?

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 19:35

what age are your other 2, Fio?

wonder whether this would fix onto the trikidoo?

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 19:43

I really will stop plaguing you with options

how about this? side by side tandem which can have more child seats added...

silverfrog · 25/03/2009 19:53

last one, I promise

you could have one of these with a baby seat (one of your dcs is quite little iirc) and a tagalong at the back?

so really, you want a tandem + baby seat for you, dd and baby?

do you think your dd will alwayss need a tandem? (sorry, that sounds blunt, but can't think how else to phrase it) and does she peddle/contribute? (sorry, again)

if you are going to need one for a long time, i'd look at the side by side options if possible - it was so pleasant riding around with my dsd last week - very sociable (she is 19 ) and we had a lovely chat.

dh & I were very taken with it too, as we would need a tandem if we go cycling alone (despite looking like a bike freak, I can't actually ride a bike - hence looking a trike styles for me + dds!)

or one of the Hase bike tandems, where the seat is right in front of the main rider.

oh, they are all so expensive - surely they can't cost much more than 2xbikes to make?! I know it's size of market, etc, but it's still annoying.

That's why i've been doing so much research into it - I want to be able to use the bike for as long as possible!

dd1 can't peddle at all yet, but she's only small, so who knows in the future? she loved going on the bike though, and dh is into cycling, so like you, we want to be able to go out all together.

what size wheel would your dd's trike be? because this might work for you? which would give you the option of giving your dd some steering practice at times...

silverfrog · 26/03/2009 10:36

oh, meant to say, do pop up to Dulwich - it's a lovely park, and has a nice cafe etc for lunch.

maybe try giving London Recumbents a call too - they are really helpful, and might have a few suggestions.

They also have a section on their website with loads of links for funding (I know you've probably explored most options, but you never know!)

don't think there's much difference between £ and Euro

will check, hang on.

yep, according to here it's £214

silverfrog · 26/03/2009 10:58

there's also this type which does the same kind of thing, but is much cheaper

don't know how stable/reliable either are, but a decent bike shop should be able to tell you

if you google it, you come across a couple of forums where people are discussing it.

general consensus is it's ok, I think.

also think they're've been threads on here about both the adaptors, so you could put a shout out and see if anyone has one?

springlamb · 26/03/2009 13:42

Sneaks in, trying to avoid ebay...

DS has a Mission chopper trike with extra wide seat that he wants to sell. If anyone would like me to put a pic on, please let me know. [Wouldn't be until next week as dh has it in workshop at moment polishing the chrome]

Croydon.
Purchased Xmas 2006. Good condition and tyres/seat exc condition.
Sure you know ds has cp and the bike has been great but is just not being used anymore as he prefers his swimming/
riding/dog training.
On it's lowest seat setting, seat is approx 25ins from ground. Will check this.
Waiting to see what it polishes up like before deciding on cost, Fio, but ds is very reasonable.
DH is very busy as he has 4 of his projects in the Volksworld show this weekend, but he will get to the bike next week. Will post a pic and give a shout on here.

spring lamb - I've been meaning to say for ages, thanks so much for the bike we bought from you about this time last year. Even though it was a bit big then DS has used it quite a lot, I think things may have changed with this leg position as he is complaining when he gets on it now so I am going to get the phsyio to look at it - hopefully it just needs tweaking. He has really enjoyed the independence though!
