DS has yet another stomach bug (had to collect him just now due to an ahem accident). And having fallen onto the EWO radar due to 85% attendance last term, I am rather conscious of having to cover my backside for this term's absence....(he's already had 7 days off at end jan for a stomach bug). If I take DS to the GP , is it enough just to take him, and say to EWO if necessary - if you ask GP, I authorise him to say I attended - or do I have to get GP to write some sort of note for EWO?

DS's school seem more concerned with keeping attendance rates up, and appear alarmingly vague as to any sort of 24 or 48 hour policy after D & V . Got the distinct impression they would rather I sent him in tomorrow even if he might have another soiling incident, rather than keep him off just in case. No wonder he keeps getting these bugs....

No real advice here, but sorry to hear about this, TC. Any luck on the job interview, btw? I've been keeping my fingers crossed

I am a complete muppet, it's actually Wednesday (good job I checked the nhs website last night really LOL)

I do that sort of thing. Wed is a lucky day for getting jobs

Hi TC. I have the same problem re EWO for my 6 year old. We had less than 80% attendance last term, and this term is going the same way.
I just get dr's notes now, or write detailed absence notes, other than that I am just waiting to see what happens. My boy gets every bug going. His school advice only 24 hour absence after d and v
I have stopped caring about EWO now. Let them try and get me to court, HAH!
Although I think if dc has asd, they are a little more understanding, or so I have heard.
Good luck with your interview!

thanks Deeja. DS doesn't have an ASD DX, just language delay/subtle social communication difficulties - so the perfect excuse for them not to cut him any slack.....

They still have to take into consideration his difficulties, and can only persue unlawful absences. I you have reasons with notes etc., then you should be fine.
Don't worry too much about it.

yeah my Dd has fallen on there radar school notifed ewo ,even though they have letter on file that she has a immune deffciancy so gets everything and anything

TC - just get the receptionist to do you an appointment card with your ds's name on. I'm an attendance officer in primary and I would accept that as evidence of a visit. Hell's teeth our local GP's would go nuclear if we suggested they write notes. Or show the staff a prescription if he gets one. We have 24 hour minimum exclusion from last episode of D&V.

Phoenix4725 · 23/03/2009 17:48

I threatned to send Dd straight back after last episode of D&v. Ignore 48 hr rule that they insist on like a lot of mums do

TotalChaos · 23/03/2009 18:12

thanks ladies, and that's a good tip about the appointment card saggar, as I quite agree that GP may not be too thrilled to have to write a note.

When DS was out of school due to severe anxiety,i asked the GP to write a note, she was furious, especially as DS was on the CAMHS waiting list,so she did me a very nice letter stating that he was off with severe anxiety and that in her opinion that was due to him being bullied in school which needed sorting out STRAIGHTAWAY,needless to say the EWO didnt ask me for another one.
