Washable carpet/rug, preferably with a waterproof backing?

Any idea whether such a thing exists, and where I can get one?

Dd is finally getting her own bedroom and I want to put some rugs down as we have no carpets. Unfortunately she has bladder problems, and I know that she will inevitably wet herself when playing, so the rug needs to be washable. Also the floor is vile chipboard, that just soaks up moisture, which is why the rug needs to have some sort of waterproof backing.

And ideas?

Not huge rugs, but I have some I bought in places like lidl sold as door mats and door runners. cheap, colourfull ( slightly naff paterns) and washable with waterproof anti slip backing. They do a grand job on our laminate floor that MUST not get wet or it springs up. have coped with accidents and drips just fine.

Oh what a good idea! Yes, I've seen those sort of things - we even have some dull brown ones for the buggy to stand on at our front door - but I had my mind fixed on big rugs. Certainly a possible alternative.

Well I use ordinary cotton rugs (and floor cushions) over lino- (but they are not waterproof). The biggest that fit in my washing machine is about 3 ft by 5 ft. Would a large rubber backed cotton bathroom rug do the trick perhaps? I have an elderly sheepskin rug that is actually excellent as it washes up well and ds loves playing on it so it did take a fair few accidents- and I don't think the accidents ever got beyond it! Could you paint the chipboard to reduce its potential absorbtion?

It is possible to Join smaller mats together with gaffa tape ( duct tape) underneath to create a carpet squares type look across a bigger area, for washing remove the soiled "squares" and replace with one from an edge or a spare.
