ok, need some ideas for days out with ds, 2.7, ASD very active loves to run and climb, and dd 7 months. live in the north west, can do up to an hours drive. He also loves anything with buttons, eg cash machines, so somewhere with lots of things to press would be good.

Not exactly in the North West but Eureka in Halifax is great for that type of thing.

I wouldn't bother with Eureka for that age group, DS went at that age and showed more interest in the pigeons outside than anything in there - sorry to be so negative vjg! I would defo agree with Museum of Science and Industry - it's free, got planes, steam trains in summer/school holiday, and got a kiddy science section with buttons to push etc. The City Art Gallery in Manchester also has a kid's section with buttons to press and thigns thatt move about when you press them etc.... Underwater St in Liverpool is good but not that cheap (make sure you go in termtime as that cuts the cost). Might also be worth a trip to Liverpool - as they have lots of free museums - Slavery Museum and Customs Museum (both in the Maritime) have plenty of buttons to press. The Walker Art Gallery has a kid's section with toys and some interactive computery things. The World Museum has an aquarium, planetarium shows, and plenty of button pressing exhibits especially on the ethnography floor.

Dont know if Hull is close enough? (geography not a strong point!) but its got a few FREE hands on kids museums, and 'the deep' too.

Another vote for the museum of science and industry. Also the world museum in liverpool.Any of the national trust properties here are good for letting off steam ...lyme park,Dunham Massey,Tatton Park (has a good play area too).

Have heard there's a new soft play place in Preston called SafeKids, especially for children with special needs. Sorry can't do links. Not been myself, but friend has and recomended it.

museum of sci/industry is particularly good if you have a buggy, as they have sloping ramps in the main building to get to all the floors, so yo don't have to rely on lifts.
