Anyone actually work, study or exercise? If so then HOW? Please come bring me your basket of wisdom... I need to find some me-time.

doe's anyone have free time?
i eat and sleep for my me time, oh and come on here!

5inthebed · 20/03/2009 16:27

I meet my friends once a month for coffee, which usally lasts from three til the coffee shop closes We've been known to be told to leave as they are closing and we are too busy chatting.

I don't get much "me" time as getting someone to watch 3 kids when my DH who works long hours is a bit tricky, so usally have to do it on one of his weekends off.

cktwo · 20/03/2009 18:19

I have a couple of hours on a Sunday which I usually use to catch up on work )I'm self-emplyed). I've been trying to go to yoga on a Thursday morning since January but only managed one. Rubbish. Other than that the only bit of peace I get is a monthly visit to the accupuncture clinic and I'm left for 40 mins with no-one to squeal, shreik or shout.

Phoenix4725 · 20/03/2009 19:30

sleep or catch up housework

anonandlikeit · 20/03/2009 22:52

I work during school hours & beyond that i'm at home.
I must admit it has got easier since ds2 started full time school & I occasionaly take a day off just for me.
It usually goes something like this..
I drop the kids off school, go home get back in to bed have a couple of hours uninterupted sleep, then a soak in the bath.
Something nice for lunch, read the paper & don't speak to a soul.. it is pure bliss!!
& then back to school to pick the kids up & back to the real world!

misscutandstick · 21/03/2009 08:33

I cut up pieces of paper... and then guess what i do with em?

I make greetings cards, mainly cos im useless at drawing/painting and like to make pretty 'pictures'.

I started a thread about this a while ago - what do you do besides parent your SN child - it was really good fun!

I read a lot. and of late I have become very interested in grooming.

porgie · 21/03/2009 09:56

animals or yourself?

hereidrawtheline · 21/03/2009 10:30

LOL

both

I have 10 animals and have also become rather vain.

TallulahToo · 21/03/2009 16:51

lol at HIDL! Hi again HIDL, nice to know that we're dealing with nice clean lady sorts on here! Am also well groomed myself.

Really feeling like I need to find some way of just being me. Unfortunately all recent attempts seem to have resulted in my becoming community commity woman - no cape just very fast tea/coffee making skills and can now sniff out a biscuit at twenty paces.

Tallulah, sympathise about community community woman - it can get a bit dry can't it?

What things used to be in your life that you miss IYSWIM?

TallulahToo · 21/03/2009 17:42

Meeting friends and enjoying a coffee or night out with absolutely NO babytalk. Is that bad? Trouble is, I probably don't have anything else to talk about either. I need outside interests and something to get my mind ticking over again but most of all I need just a little bit of fun sometimes (without eyeing up the milk-man IYSWIM).

OP posts:
hereidrawtheline · 21/03/2009 18:11

Tallulah you sound just like me! Pity you are up north & I'm down here we could be coffee friends!

Well I dont really see working (outside the home I mean) as something for ME. You know that is something for my boss isnt it. As it happens I dont work anyway so it doesnt matter. You have to think what you are interested in, what you enjoy doing and then seek it out!

List some things you find exciting!

Oh I meant to mention in addition to myself and the ten animals I have to groom I do of course have a DS and DH and constant grooming of them is necessary as well.

TallulahToo · 21/03/2009 18:53

HIDL - It's mainly some sort of mental stimulation that I think I need most, even caught myself attempting Soduku a while back.

Am sometimes tempted to search for work but really never have more than two hour time slots at the moment as DD is in nursery and DS has so many appointments to go to.

Have been thinking of further education at some point in the not too distant future but, for now, just need to know how to have fun and relax.

God knows I need coffee friends....

OP posts:
lingle · 21/03/2009 19:16

Is that bad? are you kidding?

But I appreciate that "not having something else to talk about" is a genuine issue - have been there. Went on a girl's night and we had to say what we wanted to achieve before we were 40 and all I wanted was for DS2 to progress! Hmmmm, could you look up old friends and suggest something like the cinema with a drink first somewhere where you used to go? And then spend the evening resolutely talking about anything but the kids (which basically means talking about the friend's interests and/or old times and/or other films you've seen the current movie's actors in!) until after the movie, then talking about the movie on the way home.
Sorry if this sounds patronising - not intended as such.

What interests would you ideally like to rediscover? What have you never pursued but would like to?

hereidrawtheline · 21/03/2009 19:31

I like brain stimulation - couldnt stomach soduku. What topics interest you, history, or art, or music, or current affairs, or fiction?

vjg13 · 21/03/2009 19:51

Which city 'up North' are you in? I live near Manchester. Maybe we could have a Northern meet up?!!

cktwo · 21/03/2009 20:42

My mum just told me she can't have the kids tomorrow and i can't belive how upset I am. It's been a really tough week with DD1 and I just needed 2 hours of peace and the freedom to please myself. I'm completely overreactling cos I'm so tired but that time is so precious. And to top it all there naff all on telly tonight to distract me. Balls.

PS I'm near to Manchester too so I'm up for Northern meet-up

hunnybun1981 · 22/03/2009 00:07

i try and go to gym 3/4 times a week when sn child is at school, i take youngest to the creche, sometimes i think stuff the housework it is better for the kids to have a stress free mum, who gets me time.

loggedout · 22/03/2009 08:40

Allotment. All the old duffers ask why I don't bring my kids!!!!!!

PheasantPlucker · 22/03/2009 12:49

Allotments are fantastic! I can spend 4 hours there with my flask of coffee and sarnies in the summer, just weeding, picking produce, pottering about..... (when children are at school, ie dd1 at school and if dd2 is with someone in the morning and has gone to a play group and then dropped at nursery). I think it must be quite good exercise too. I love it. We have a little shop at ours which opens for hours every Sunday. There is a rota of volunteers, and I go to help in the shop every 6 weeks or so. It is full of older people, and it is such good fun. Totally different from the usual school run etc etc.

hereidrawtheline · 22/03/2009 13:00

ooh DH wants an allotment one day. We grow loads here at the house. I darent even think about it I think we are up to 30-40 different types of veg. DH is an allotment spotter. Whenever we drive past them he looks longingly!
