DS's (6) sensory issues seem to be getting worse.

Last week he wouldn't do PE. This weekend he has been in tears over every item of clothing and all kinds of minor issues.

Today, he got freaked out by his polo shirt again so we put a different one on. Then, when I dropped him off at school, he wouldn't go in to class.

I had to sit him the far side of a book case. They were having 'carpet time'. The teacher called over one of his friends and let him sit with him and said he could take his time and join them when he felt able.

It made me so sad to leave him like that.

This teacher is taking him for three days rather than one day a week at the moment and I think he really likes her. Do you think that is why he is exhibiting more of these issues with her?

App with Paed is next week. I keep telling myself not to attach too much weight to it. I'm sort of building it up in my mind as a magical turning point after which everything will be better! That will only lead to disappointment.

I'm just so glad his teacher is so sensible

Hi debs

My DS2 (asd) would run and hide in the toilets and we eventually discovered this happened when he was the last or almost last child into class.

It probably sounds silly but does it make any difference, do you think,on whether he's one of the first kids in or one of the last, ifykwim!

Ds2 is the same age and has had quite a few mornings where he tries to hide from everyone else. I find he gets more sensitive to everything when he's tired or feeling run down. It doesn't seem to make a difference who the teacher is.

The teacher takes a similar approach to your ds' teacher. I think it takes the pressure off and gives him time to adjust to being back in the classroom with all the people, noises and smells around him.

Hopefully the Paed will be able to give you some answers and sort out some OT for your ds. Good luck with the appointment next week. xx

Thanks. This is really helpful.

I had a chat with DS's teacher today and she said he has been ok today although he got into a tizz this morning when he got to the door of the class and decided he wouldn't go in without his star wars book!

She said he didn't want to do handwriting (they are in Yr 1 and do 'joined up writin' and he thinks he can't do it) and that she has noticed him getting anxious about new people or sitting next to children he doesn't know well.

They have PE tomorrow so she suggested getting him changed at home.

I've also spoken to him and he thinks getting into class first would be good. So we'll see how that goes!

Thanks all
