Whilst researching ADHD for my son I have been looking at the symptoms for ADHD for girls and they sort of describe my childhood .

Love to chat about it.

  • A problem with making friends, didn't understand that how you treated people affected how they treated you. Learnt over the years from watching people but social rules still pass me by a lot of the time
  • very argumentative - no longer pick arguments but can get upset if I think people are wrong or taking the mickey
  • real problems on concentrating on one thing, tended to drift off. Still have problems with things like cooking as I tend to wander off and do something else, so need a timer to stop myself
  • fidgety, always doodling - still get that pent in feeling sometimes
  • underlying depression / emptyness
  • intense (could go for a walk for a reason and then find myself half an hour later somewhere totally different)
  • self medicated with drugs, alcohol, excerise for years, till I met DH
  • impulsive, no thinking through decisions
  • desire to shock

Thats me!

DD is going through the whole ADHD, ADD and ODD thing at mo. I done an online test on her and it said she was high risk. So I got her to do it on herself and she come out with a higher risk assesment than what I had given her. So thought i would do the test on myself. Guess what - high risk (although not as high as DD. LOL

Apparently ADHD has a strong propensity to run in families.

I am thinking of sitting down and writing an account of my feelings as a child for DS1. One thing I remember clearly is the fact that I was easily manipulated and found it very difficult to make decisions so often I felt helpless. I can see it with DS1 that I often manipulate him in a way I don't even try and do with DS2.

Has your ds had an official dx ? I have 6.5 yo dx ADHD. If I look hard at myself, yes I had and still do have problem concentrating or paying attention (hate any finer details and tend to brush over things), I am a fiddler, a fidget and have a problem with authority. I never had a problem making or keeping friends and have always been able to read social situations. I was never impulsive, but then neither is my son. You can look too hard into these things. I am not saying I do not agree they can be hereditary, but I think all of us have a little of everything in us iyswim.
