Dd2 (asd) has been off colour for over a week (you may of seen my other posts), being non-verbal means she has been unable to tell us if anything hurts etc. She has been off her food all week which is not like her at all, i took her to the GP in the week who checked her over and couldn't find anything wrong, he gave her anti-biotics just in case but i decided not to give them (as he didn't find any signs of infection).
Yesterday she seemed ok but still not eating much. Today she hasn't moved off the sofa (dd2 is usually very active), the only thing she has eaten is a bit of chocolate brownie, she seems happy but is refussing to move.

Should i be worried or is it just a virus? She has had a bad cough for a while but the GP said her chest was clear.

Its her 3rd birthday tomorrow so really want her to feel well again so she can play on her new bike.

Sorry to hear DD is unwell. Hope she improves for her Birthday. And Happy 3rd Birthday.

We often get anti biotics when my DD is sick and the doc can't see anything wrong, but DD is still unwell. And she always starts to improve.

Sorry DD is still poorly Marne. I wouldn't be too worried about anything else being wrong with her as the docs have looked her over. As long as she is drinking she should perk up soon. Would she have an ice lolly/ice cream just to get something in her?

DS2 usually gets more poorly than the rest of the family when he has a virus, and usually goes off his food for days.

Hope she has a lovely birthday tomorrow.

I am sorry she is still poorly. I hope she has got better and regardless has a lovely birthday today.

If she's still poorly then it's worth trying the antibiotics. I can understand your reasons for not wanting to give them completely. DD (also non-verbal) is treated blind by the GP many many times with antibiotics without her displaying classic infection symptoms. What she does display is generally poorly-ness, not eating and displays of violence to her sister (to confirm how miserable she feels . In every case, she recovers quickly with the amoxicilin.

Thanks, she's a lot better today but still not herself, she seems to be eating more and has been playing with her birthday presents, she's still a bit grumpy but hopefully on the mend. I hate giving her anti-biotics as they give her the runs and its difficult to get them into her without pinning her down.

Glad she is feeling a bit better today marne. Did she like her bike?

hereidrawtheline · 15/03/2009 18:52

I am glad she is feeling a little better. I hope it continues. Its so hard isnt it when you cant understand what is wrong.

She loved her 'in the night garden bike' and her upsy daisy costume, she's now fast asleep which is great as last night it took me 3 hours to get her to sleep . Dh is now unwell and in bed.

Hi my ds was like that a while back, and docs didnt realise anything was wrong he cant communicate much either, he had also stopped really eating this went on for days, i was so worried, until one day he pointed to his ear, i touched underneath and there was a lump took him straight to docs and they then diagnosed tonsillitus and gave him antibiotics, thats y he wouldnt eat cos it hurt. He is fine now

Marne · 16/03/2009 17:06

I'm starting to think she may have tonsilitus. She has a really dry cough today and has been coughing all day (it sounds really painful), i have started her on the antibiotics (amoxicilin) the gp gave her, i think i am in for a bad night with her , i hope the antibiotics kick in soon.
