I did.... and I felt so silly as it made me want to cry...... all this goodwill and money being raised, but it's still OK to have a pop at people with special needs. DH bristled too.

Very disappointing

I have complained now

lets hope many more do

how do you complain?
I also saw it and was very upset. How stupid of them.

Barmymummy · 14/03/2009 14:28

completely agree, so unnecessary and hurtful. Why do they think it is funny? Just don't understand.

hereidrawtheline · 15/03/2009 08:50

Must admit I didnt see it as I only watch cbeebees & milkshake in the morning with DS but had I watched it I would have been very upset too I will complain as well, is there a link or anything you can send to me where I can send an email?

5inthebed · 15/03/2009 09:54

I saw that one and thought it was very uncalled for. Well done for complaining. I bet you won't be the only one.

HIDTL, it was on on Friday night during Comic Relief

Frasersmum123 · 15/03/2009 17:48

How do you complain? I noticed it too and thought it was completely unfunny.

5inthebed · 15/03/2009 18:31

Directly to the BBC I assume? Or to the tv channel that funds that specific programme.

Frasersmum123 · 15/03/2009 19:48

I have made my complaint.

If you go to the BBC homepage and scroll to the bottom, there is a link there called 'complaints'.

sphil · 15/03/2009 21:35

I was offended by this too - even worse that it was on during Comic Relief night tbh. Will add my complaint.

anniebear · 16/03/2009 12:38

I have recieved a response to my complaint, so have copied and pasted for you all.

Dear Amanda

Thanks for your e-mail regarding 'Comic Relief - Funny for Money'.

Firstly, I apologise for the delay in our reply. We know our correspondents appreciate a quick response, and it's a matter of regret to us that you've had to wait for so long on this occasion.

I'm sorry if you were offended by the content of the 'Outnumbered' sketch during 'Comic Relief - Funny for Money', I can assure you it is never the intention of the BBC to deliberately upset its audience.

Although a comedy, 'Outnumbered' has always tackled sensitive and complex subjects - such as bullying, fear of debt, special needs and coping with Alzheimer's. There certainly was no intention to insult anyone watching 'Comic Relief - Funny for Money'.

I'm sure that you will appreciate that the programme was being as funny as possible and certainly did not want to cause any offence to people with special needs. Indeed some of the £59,187,065 raised will be used to help fund projects for people with special needs. As I have a son with learning difficulties I do appreciate the strength of your feelings on this matter.

However as the BBC is a public service financed by the licence fee it must provide programmes which cater for the whole range of tastes in humour. We believe that there is no single set of standards in this area on which the whole of society can agree, and it is inevitable that programmes which are acceptable to some will occasionally strike others as distasteful. The only realistic and fair approach for us is to ensure that the range of comedy is broad enough for all viewers to feel that they are catered for at least some of the time.

I appreciate that you may continue to hold a different view so I've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the executive board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content. All feedback we receive, whether positive or negative, is appreciated. We're committed to developing better links with our audience to further our understanding of your viewing and listening needs.

Thanks again for contacting the BBC.

Regards

I got exactly the same response!

Funny - I don't remember seeing much comedy on the BBC catering for racists lately, yet special needs are fair game

amber32002 · 21/03/2009 07:09

Well said, NotPlayingAnyMore. Always, always disabilities are seen as 'fair game' and something to make jokes about. It's why there were 8000+ prosecutions for racism last year and barely more than 100 for disability hate crimes even though people with disabilities are regularly targeted for violence.

anniebear · 21/03/2009 07:11

I never even got a response

anniebear · 21/03/2009 07:14

what a terrible response you got

thats so awful

so if some people like racist jokes its ok to make them , just as long as we are pleasing some people

I am so annoyed
