Im not new to MN but fairly new to SN part of it, other than I might post on sisters threads (SGK) now and then.

My DD1 has been referred for assessment for possible Asbergers (sp?) GP sent referal to CAMHS and today I recieved a letter from them, it was a copy of letter sent to GP. Its said "your referal was discussed at the camhs refereal meeting. We agree T may be on austistic spectrum.!!" then went on to say they had referred to CDC.

Was not prepared for it tbh, they have never met DD1 or me and guess i wasnt ready to hear this yet

I know im not making much sense, but guess I would have preffered not to recieve this in a letter iyswim

Not the best way to get news like this, very insensitive.
But on the plus side, IME the CDC have always been far far better than CAMHS, so hopefully your DD will get a thorough assessment & support if needed.

And as you say they have never met your dd & it may not end up being the correct dx.

You're making perfect sense!
Until the moment before my DS's diagnosis was confirmed, in my heart I'd still hoped it wasn't autism (even though that would've been more of a mystery to me), because no parent wants their child to have it.
Hopefully having had some forewarning will at least prepare you somewhat for that moment.

The other scenario would have been CAMHS saying they didn't think she was on the autistic spectrum and thus no referral or assessment, despite never having met your DD!
It's bound to be a shock at first but after that has started to subside, you can see it in more of a "glass half full" way - knowledge is power

That's a really poor way of informing you - quite shocking.

I agree with the other posters - you are better with a referral to CDC than with one to CAMHS. Aspergers is a social and communication disorder that the CDC will be much better placed to assess for than CAMHS which (in our area at least) has little expertise in Aspergers syndrome.

How unprofessional to inform you of thier thoughts by letter - its like dumping someone by text!

Poor you. Not a nice way of being told about it. Your head must be all over the place.

Are they following it up with anything?

Welcome to the SN boards btw, you'll get a lot of help and support from here. Chin up.
