I would be really appreciative if those of you with children who are on the spectrum, could give me some clarity on wether or not these personality traits could be exhibited:

. A sense of humour, however 'basic'
. Imaginative play, again however 'basic'
. Good eye contact
. Good verbal skills
. Fairly sociable (albeit with only certain groups of people)

Im sure ive heard people say that most of these can co-exist with ASD, but i would really like a firm yes or no kinda statement. Thanks for reading X

Thanks for your reply August, i find it interesting that you say about his sense of humour making Dx harder, but the recurrent theme seems to be the difficulty with peer group friendships.

yes to all of them

imaginitive play ie roleplay

my local gaming shop has 5 asd diagnosed players all who deeply enjoy this aspect

sense o humor, tends to be tark in those i know
verbal skills yes most is developed by rote

a asd/aspie may have a huge vocabulary without comprehension over time that will change as they learn the meanings
eyecontact kindof msot the ones i know at look through you or slightly above , its more socially acceptable then facing down at them

ds has all of those except good eye contact. He does do eye contact but only with those he is closest too (it's best with his sister)

ds's sense of humour has always been fab. Rather mature for his age i would say too.
