When it's not exactly echolalia

Ds1 repeats himself frequently. He will say whatever it is that he needs to say and then will repeat all or part of the sentence in a whisper. Is there a term for this? His pediatrician documented it as echolalia but as I understand it that is when a someone repeats something that someone else says.

I've been watching (lurking!) this thread with interest and I'm just wondering if echolalia is something that is spontaneous but constant or whether it can be switched on and off, kind of at will? I hope that makes sense.

Let's see, what to list for ds1...

He's very OCD about things, very into directions and maps to that sivant extreme iykwim

Lots of gut problems

Major regression on potty training that took 2 years to get even somewhat back on track

Always a bit different socially, although some of that is also due to him being a couple of grade years ahead of his chronological peers - even though we have not skipped grades

sleep issues

eating issues including a sensitivity to dairy

and just that quirkiness that's hard to explain
