Sorry, another dumb question from me:

DS's report recommends:

2.Information to the Education Department about this diagnosis by sending a copy of this assessment letter and request appropriate support with his further education. We do recommend involvement of A Specialist Teacher for Children with Autism.

Do you think this means I have to do this or they will? Is this a statement they are acking for?

Cheers,

BR

I would think that It is up to the Local Education Authority to supply the Specialist Teachers.

I would speak to the Head Teacher and quiery this report.

Has anyone said anything to you in person?

The LEA will have a number of STA's for different specialisms (ie physical disability, Autism, Visually Impaired, etc etc) What setting is your son in an at the moment? It basically means that the STA for Autism would be of benfit in advising the school/ nursery whatever the best way to support ds. You don't need to contact them, but I would ask your setting if they have been in touch with the STA and asked for a visit. If this is your dx letter, and it has gone to the setting, then it might kick start further thinking as to whether he would benefit from requesting additional funding, but tbh they should be on the case already if they think he needs help.
Sometimes STA contact is done on an 'as required' basis, and sometimes it gets written into a statement of SEN. Who was writing the report? They aren't asking anyone for a statement, they are just suggesting that the STA would be of use.
