Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

SEN Teacher has actually told my son she does not agree with what the EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST recommends...

...and as a result DS1 is on a real downer.

After the long awaited EP assessment and meeting- we all felt very bouyant.

We were told the school had to support DS so his cognitive abilities were met- not place him in lower groups just so the support was available.

She also agreed that DS had problems with co-ordination which make PE demoralising- suggested the school make arrangements to ensure that DS was 'involved' with the lesson... without actually joining in... (helping etc)

Now i understand that the school can totally ignore everything the EP says...as she is only 'advising' them.... DS is not statemented.

However...I am absolutely FURIOUS (feel sick) that this SEN teacher has had this conversation with my son.

What are you going to do?

How old is he ? My gut feeling is that she should not have been talking to your son about this either without your permission or without you present. I'm sure there is some one who can advise of the next 'official' step. Take care.

agree with Icandothat. Think you need a meeting with head, sen teacher and class teacher to discuss what they are going to do wrt ep recommendations.

Additionally, get them to involve physio / occupational therapy. They will assess your son and will come into school to advise and offer support. In our county, a referral via the school doctor accesses this service.

Do you have a parent partnership locally who can advise and support you?

I was told this by one of the secondary schoolsm I looked around for DS1 (ASD), that they would have to put him in the lower groups for the support, when he is working well above his age academically - he won't be going there!

thanks all- I do feel i need to take this further.

He is yr10- age 15 Diagnosed ADHD at 7 and AS age 9.

she is the same teacher that has:

*told me 'the world does not revolve around DS'
(he has AS so to him the world DOES)

*told me that The school has had to share the Dyslexia funding with the Aspergers students- so it has made her job more difficult.

*told DS that he must not use his HYPER/ AS behaviours as a excuse.

*Told me that AS is 'WELL UNDERSTOOD' in the school cos each class teacher has a SEN file with an AS section in it and they can refer to it whenever they want

  • And that within that file there is a list of students who are on the SEN register- so again teachers are therefore able to use startegies appropriate to each child.

At the Ed Psych meeting, the SENCo (not this teacher) admitted that in the past they maybe did not understand ASD's but they now have a trained ASD teacher - so things should improve.

I want NOTHING more to do with this teacher and would like him 'under the wing' of this ASD teacher.
