i know im being stupid.

here goes

a friends child was dx,d with ASD last week, their DC is only 4 and from start to finish the dx took 4 weeks, this is on the NHS.

so while im glad they have an understanding of their childs problems, its brought back all the CRAP we,ve been having to go through to get DD a dx.

she is 5 next month and in Nov 2006 had the assessment at the CDC which said suspected ASD,then a year later they dx,d her but this was overturned by a phonecall from the Ed Psych who disagreed,we were shoved onto CAMHS who we have been under a year and
no where near getting a dx.

they havent ruled ASD out and are monitoring her but im just so so weary of it all,the same happened with DS in that they wouldnt dx him

i just feel like getting her discharged and not bothering.

God i bet i sound really self pitying,i dont mean to i just cant understand sometimes how the system works.

heres me giving advice saying some of us take the scenic route and then i collapse in tears

Jenk1- we are having simalar problems with dd2, i keep reading about people who have managed to get a DX with their 2 year olds and we are still being told its too early to get a DX for dd2 who will be 3 next week.

We have been told that it may take another year before we get a dx. She was refered to the paed 9 months ago and we have just got an appointment through for her first part of her asessment (this month).

Dd2 (in our eyes)is clearly ASD, she has more traits than dd1 (AS), she's non verbal, flaps her hands, flicks her eyes, spins and has a lot of sensory issues.

If we had the money i think we would go private (i have no idea how much it would cost but i'm thinking it will be too much).

Some days i feel as if we don't need a DX for her as we know she has ASD (do we need a bit of paper to tell us that?).

Dd1's DX took 2.3 years .

sympathies marne,its wrong isnt it?

DD was assessed at 18 months and a year later was dx,d but they withdrew it as the hospital we were under wasnt in the same authority as our LA, (we are right on the border and allowed to go to either of 2) so they withdrew the dx and said it has to be redone by CAMHS attached to our LA who dont seem to be assessing her and dont want to confirm yes or no in writing.

We did go private last year and she was dx,d with PDD-NOS, but like you say about your dd it is so obvious to us that DD is on the spectrum and we treat her like she is.

DS,s dx took 2.5 yrs but he was 10 when we finally got a dx of AS,my cousins son is 4 and it took just over a month.
