DS2 (6, with ASD) is finally using the toilet (well toilet chair). This is the fourth time we've attempted toilet training and I can't believe how quickly he's picked it up - we've only been doing it for 5 days or so and he's now doing wees independently, with no prompting and even when there's no-one else in the room.

At the moment it's right in front of the TV but I'm going to start moving it gradually towards our downstairs loo.

When I think that we'd had absolutely zero success before(not a single wee in potty or toilet ever) it's amazing - like something has just clicked. Hope this gives hope to those who are in a similar position.

here's hoping the spooky twin-ness works it's magic again, as dd1 is stuck in a bit of a rut... (mind you, it would help if she would drink...)

but well done ds2, you must be really chuffed

misscutandstick · 01/03/2009 09:23

Fantastic!!!

(incidentally we tried moving DS4's 'throne' -fisherprice all singing all dancing royal throne- ever so slightly towards the bathroom, and he was having none of it, apparently in the kitchen next to the cooker is the only place for it!?!)

TinySocks · 01/03/2009 14:09

Oh sphil!! So chuffed for you.
Having just recently conquered the pees and poos with my own DS1 I still have vivid memories of the JOY i felt when it finally happened. So congratulations!!!! Open up that champagne bottle!

Thanks everyone - I do feel very very happy although we're still at the early stages. For example, DS2 asked to go into the garden today when we had friends round, so I let him go out on his own and put the potty chair out there - but he came back with wet trousers. Not sure if it was the trousers (he's just in pants in the house) or being outside.

This is a strange one - I realised that he'd done a poo as well as a wee while in the garden, so I took him into our downstairs loo and changed him. While doing so I tipped the poo into the loo and showed him. He started gagging and rushed out of the room. Yet he handles his own poo on a fairly regular basis (!) and we never see any signs of revulsion. Can anyone offer a possible explanation? I can see it might get in the way of poo training...
