Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

I am going to rant about lack of ignorance of invisible disabilities (asd). Bloody people at Disney giving dirty looks for using exit passes...

I am f*ing livid at the responses I got while at Euro disney yesterday. The staff were fantastic.
We booked this week thinking it would be quiet Little did we know France are on holiday. On Thursday we tried really hard to queue with dd, I think we got on 2 rides all day, with up to 90 mins waiting time for each. dd's behaviour was dreadful (I won't go into detail on here exactly what she was doing but it was so hard for us all, especially ds). I am ill again so that didn't help and I had every one tutting at the things she was doing. They are the same people who then tutted after we we went to City Hall and they explained that they have special passes for children with asd and we didn't need to wait.
Yesterday was far more enjoyable as we didn't have the wait although dd definitely found it hard with so many people etc etc
I had one woman give me filthy looks and looked as though she wanted to fight me I am not joking. I then felt so anxious about using it but had no choice. Why are people so bloody ignorant. Don't they realise I would swap in a heartbeat if dd could queue like everyone else

Sorry just wanted to add if it is a short queue and dd can just about manage I will try. I don't abuse the system and want her to learn but to expect a child with AS and Adhd to queue for 90 minutes is just impossible really..

I'm so sorry that you had to put up with this. My daughter has GDD and we used the special pass too.

I think we were lucky in that it was a less busy time of year. Don't forget people are stressed there and probably having a crap time waiting, they probably glare at everyone.

maddiemostmerry · 28/02/2009 13:18

Know how you feel. We also try to queue as mine can manage a short wait. Our problem is that ds3 wants to leave within an hour of arriving. We do use passes sometimes, and I am very aware of the looks that you get from people. Fix eyes ahead and ignore if possible, it's not worth ruining your day over someone elses thoughts.
At one ride a woman asked how long the queue was and I said I didn't know as I had adisabled pass and she said 'aren't you lucky'!!!!!

TotalChaos · 28/02/2009 18:15

sorry you had a bit of a crappy holiday.

misscutandstick · 28/02/2009 18:26

maddie: OMG, 'lucky' really isnt the way id describe it at all!!!

Blossom: DS1 has ADHD and i totally get you on this. I didnt know about exit passes for many years and it was awful in queues and we just stopped going out which meant everyone else missed out, or we felt guilty all day if the others had a birthday day out treat and he stopped at home with grandma . But now we know about the passes (and its only the last couple of years) and we only use them on longer queues too. {{{HUGS}}}

AND tbh (as im sure you are aware) it doesnt take the rush of people away, or quieten the place! and very often its not like they get to go on loads of rides anyway - between dodging scary looking rides or having a tough time trying to work out which ride they might want to risk, or throwing an hours strop that the one ride they liked the look of is down for maintenance!

lulurose · 28/02/2009 18:56

I am sorry you had this reaction from people, we had similar looks at legoland when we used the pass a few times.

We are off to Paris Disney in May, can I ask what paperwork you have to show at City Hall, would DLA letter at higher rate be acceptable or should I get a letter from the GP too?

Thanksx

We just showed the blue badge.

I did not know such passes existed. What a great idea, gives some meaning to making something 'accesible'. Sod the looks. People are like that. I used to go on holidays with people who needed a wheelchair as they did not have enough breath to walk but they could stand. The looks they go when standing up from wheelchair. Forget those and watch your dc enjoy themseves.

Phoenix4725 · 01/03/2009 04:03

i tend to say you can have my exit pass, but you got take the problems to , tend to shut them up

moondog · 01/03/2009 10:06

I wouldn't worry about people's 'filthy looks' BH. You don't know them or care about what they think, so what does it matter.

I also think queuing that long would try anyone's patience.Maybe rethink taking her to such places?

I would be a gibbering wreck meself!!
