But...if ds is dx, how can the teacher say he hasn't got it? People are very mysterious.

Is the SENCO involved?? Is there an individual education plan (IEP) of any sort/the new equivalent of that?

Good luck - if there's no progress, the idea to get an autism outreach person is a really good one. They can help to advocate for you.

If a SENCO is trying to tell you that your ds doesn't have AS even though he has a dx then you really need someone from Autism Outreach to go in and explain.

If you have an NAS group in your area they can also be a lot of help. They will either know who is the best person/agency to speak to or might even be able to go along with you to a meeting with the SENCO and give them some information leaflets etc.

I would also be concerned by a SENCO who thinks it's okay to over-ride a medical professional's dx. If she's new to the job then I would wonder what training she has had for the role and whether she was planning to go on any courses in the near future.

As a last resort if all else fails then it's worth finding out if your school has an SN governor who you could speak to.

well its queit amusing she says every one who have watched him ,say theres no problem ,so i try to explain i get the melt down as he says he is struggling with friends, creative, writing as i said this morning then and how he told me he wants to come home or hide even dispear when hes not getting any where, or when theres loads of noise, but she says oh he can come and talk any time ( but he wont, carnt) fed up with telling her.

i asked if anyone eles as AS in school they said no she showed me his level for writing which is 2c so i asked about his reading ( very advanced_) but she says his writing is with the reading so really that dont work does it?
i told because hes so good at keeping a lid on it in school we get it all at home so then goes on to say well may be they should help his behavour at home not school so really shes saying its my parenting.

i am even qestioning my self now, and cos we kept him in school a little longer he did start to get wond up i said its comming the melt down. as soon as we walked out of the class it started but guess what, she was nowhere in site!

its it me?

It sounds as though she hasn't got a clue about AS. It's very common for children with AS to behave differently in different environments. They can just about hold it all in during the day but when they get home they have to release the pressure somehow. This can also happen in reverse when they're fine at home but not at school.

I would be tempted to ask her who she is talking about when she says 'everyone who has watched him'. If they were people qualified to give or over-ride a dx then I'd want to know why no-one had mentioned their visit to you before. If she means other teachers then they don't have the expertise or knowledge to make those kinds of observations.

If the school has no experience of AS then I think this probably explains a lot!
