SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Do you just keep telling yourself that one day in the future you won't spend an evening scraping poo out of clothing...

Sorry, TMI, I know, and not strictly SN but only you guys will know how frustrating this is. Why is it always at bed time that DS decides to overflow his nappy onto his sleepsuit and at the same time DD decides to poo in her pyjamas so I'm left trying to clean up wriggly DS before he crawls off, clean the carpet, and try to clean up DD.
Why is DH never home before 9 p.m. so never has to deal with this?!
Poor DD - thought before Christmas we had the poo problem sorted (won't go in the loo but started going on a potty) but increasingly holding in, therefore constipated. Have just been given course of (aargh!!) suppositories by GP, idea being that I give her one a day for a while to "retrain" at set time every day to "retrain" her bowel. Oooh, I'm so looking forward to this, on top of getting her to wear a patch for 3-4 hours a day (yeah right!) and doing SALT exercises and all the sensory stuff as well. How I'm supposed to fit this all in when she's at school from 8.30 to 4.30...
Sorry, rant! Just had to offload...

Oh Brio!! Let me give you a big cup of tea.
Yes I know how frustrating the poo situation is. Just hang in there, it will end, eventually.

Oh the joys of synchronised pooing! My ds2 and ds3 seem to poo at the same time every day, always at an inappropriate time as well.

Well, to be fair, DS is only 19 mos so his isn't an SN issue but DD's is so I knew you guys would understand!!.

DS3 is 13 weeks old, so no SN issue there. Its ds2, who now insists on putting his hands in his nappy after he has pooed that is the problem

i keep telling myself thru gritted teeth "one day, i WILL miss all this..."

5inthebed · 24/02/2009 16:20

Eek BBM, I'll keep my fingers crossed he doesn't feel the need to do that

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 24/02/2009 16:35

I feel your pain my 2 (8 & 9 yrs old) still leave me little surprises in their underpants! (ds1 much more often than ds2). I remember the days of walking into their bedroom and seeing they'd redecorated . Our nappy stint was a solid six years it gets on top of you sometimes, doesn't it? (and under you, and inbetween your toes and.....)

busy - hunt the poo! I remember that. I spent many a happy hour on my hands and knees, sniffing my way round the house

I remember one time opening the bedroom door and ds1 was standing there with poo smeared over his face!!

And then there's always the one you miss that finds its way into the washing machine and you see it spinning round and round and as the water heats up, and the full power is released, you get the lovely aroma of poo-stew. mmmmm.

Ah well, it's all good fun for us, innit folks?

Yup. compared to many I have got off lightly in that department! - I have heard some right stories over the years! - He used to prefer to rub it all over the walls and between his hands than to paint his face with it!

I truly thought I would NEVER see the day when they would a) come out of nappies and b) stop painting the walls with it!

ds1 used to ALWAYS have a finger up his arse

Now look - nappy free and poo only in loo and pants. (and washing machine but that's my fault for not making triple sure! ) Result!

BriocheDoree · 24/02/2009 19:35

Actually, Hecate, I was thinking of you as I wrote this post, because I remember some of your descriptions of DS1 with the poo on his face!
One slight problem here is that we can only put the washing machine on when we are out of the house (DD is rather noise sensitive and is a bit scared) and can't put it on at night as it's right next to the kids' bedroom (we're in an appartment) so inevitably you end up with bowls of soaking clothes. I always put too much bleach in when I soak them and the kids end up with tie-die pyjamas
This evening DD went in her potty with NO accidents. That's the first time for a good week!
