If he is school refusing get a note from the DR insist on one with the reasons why otherwise you maybe fined. Look at the ACE website, they have free booklets on their site one of which covers this topic.

Whilst seeing the GP see if GP can put pressure on CAMHS as waits can be very long, even when perceived as very urgent.

hi bigdonna.

This happened to us 4 years ago,DS was undiagnosed and having difficulties and refusing to go to school.

GO to your GP ASAP, and get a sick note, explain that hes been referred to camhs and is school refusing and you need a note to cover you.

if you get any stick from school, EWO,s pop back on here and we,ll help you as best we can, there are a few of us who have been in the same situation.

i found IPSEA briliiant,i was terrified at first that we would be prosecuted and IPSEA explained everything and told me what to do and gave me model letters to write.

first step is to get that letter from your GP and make sure you get a copy as well.

thanks for that jenk1 as its very worrying he is less stressed because he is with me but when he was at school he was medication for constipation since last october.has lots of migraines and is basically always at the drs.since not sending him he takes no meds and is much happier he said he will go to another school but not this one!!!!please can you tell me what the IPSEA is.in my ds best interests i know he should not go back to that school again sort his problems out and then try again hopefully thanks for your advice it is much appreciated as i was told so many people would ring last week no one rang.

waiting lists vary from area to area, I would phone up your local one and ask how long likely wait will be (and then if necessary ask GP to try and hurry things through).

IPSEA - www.ipsea.org.uk is an educational charity that helps with statementing/education for kids with SEN etc - it has a very busy helpline and lots of useful info on their website
