stab the dinner ladies

This has been something he has mentioned most days during half term. Back at school on Tuesday and I am beginning to panic about how to deal with this.

Ds is now in bed

I spoke to the support teacher he argued with and the senco together in a mtg today

It seems that what he said wasnt exactly true - he argued with her in the playground and put it on, for his 30 mins one 2 one all was fine apparantly.

I told them his version was imho an expression of how badly he feels about the situation

They looked at me

I said he says that the situation makes him feel like he wants to kill himself

They looked at me

The SENCO (supposedly a SN expert!) said why doesnt he like wearing his coat

I said "well its a sensory issue, very common with aspergers people"

They looked at me like I was loopy

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You have my sympathies yurtgirl. My DS5 is 10 and has AS and is exactly the same as far as wearing a coat. (He will not even wear clothes at home apart from his boxers!)

Luckily his school do not make an issue out of it, because if they did I know we would have problems.

Ask for a meeting with the SENCO and the head; insist that they take these sensory issues on board and that the other school staff are aware of them too.

Do you have any input from any other professionals to back you up (CDC for instance)?

Hi Tiggywinkle

Yes he has seen an OT and an EdPsych - I only have the OTs number not sure how to contact the edpsych who is the one I need to speak to

What is CDC?

I phoned the NAS helpline earlier - they are going to send me the sensory issues leaflet for me to take into the school

I am that the SENCO was unaware that sensory issues are a problem for AS people - she appeared completely ignorant - I found myself talking in words of one syllable to explain ds problem to her.

Nothing surprises me about school staff and AS yurtgirl-most seem to know next to nothing about it.

CDC is Child Development Centre, where the paeds, psychologists etc are based (here anyway-may be different in your area).

Your poor DS-it really upsets me when mine is misunderstood or his needs ignored, so I know how you feel. It is just so difficult to get people to think about all the difficulties our children with AS face just to get through the school day.
