Ds was dx with ADHD about 1.5 years ago. At 1st he was on Ritalin, but made him v. down, tearful, depressed. We decided to have a happy but bonkers little boy & try to manage his behaviour. We moved last May. Since the move he's actually settled down a lot, to the point the school thought I was mad when I mentioned he had the dx & almost poo pooed it.

Anyway, over the Christmas he really reverted to his 'ADHD' behaviour. We thought it was being out of routine, in strange place (spent 2 weeks in England w. grandad) etc & that he would settle down back at home, back at school.

Anyway, he hasn't. Have had a couple of convos w. teacher who says behaviour also v. different & challenging at school.

So being back in routine hasn't helped, so we're ruling that out. Just bewildered why he's suddenly become so difficult & regressed so much.

Now wondering if it's winter itself and being indoors more & burning off less energy?

Have other people experienced similar? Is winter the problem? Any other theories or suggestions how to help him? (wracking brains for ways for him to let off steam indoors, if indeed that is the prob)

Thanks

Hi. My ds aged 6.5 dxADHD. 'Things' are def worse in the winter. I still make a huge effort to get him out, running, cycling whatever even if it's raining. Look at them like a dogs (no offense !), but they need to be exercised. We chose not to medicate our son, and have not regretted in so far. We've been able to control behaviour through diet and supplements. We bought a Wii Fit for Xmas and I've got to say it's been great for winter days and nights - burning off loads of energy.

Ds (9 Dxed ASD and ADHD)seems to have a need to run off energy and gets unbearable when cooped up . The end of the winter seems worst. He seems to need the movement and to jiggle! He is much calmer after a good long walk! Many of the children in his school (sn/asd) are similar and they manage it very well - sending them out for a run - or to the hall. Swimming, 3 wheel scooting, (cycling once able). We go out in all weathers - but I know what you mean it is harder with the short days even ducks go to sleep once dusk arrives. Some one on here ( racking hopeless memory) mentioned vit D and the link to sunshine -I have not checked the science though..
Hope you find something that calms ds down. Ps I also find growth spurts can be tricky - and change /holidays argh!
