psychotherapy for PDD?

DD has been diagnosed here as having a "TED" which is more or less the equiv. of PDD-NOS, as far as I can tell. Slightly surprised as I thought it was a lang. disorder. The real problem is that they now want her to go and see a psychotherapist and I have a BAD feeling about this. Don't know why, but just don't feel that this is appropriate! Can anyone advise. What is the usual therapy for a child with PDD?

first of all sympathies re:DX, particularly hard a you weren't expecting it. Would have thought that the usual therapy for a child with PDD would be same as for child with ASD - i.e. speech therapy, OT, that sort of thing, would not have thought psychotherapy was appropriate. seeing a psychologist for help with behaviour/anxiety I could see the point of, but psychotherapy????

Well, to be fair, they want her to see psychotherapist to deal with anxiety / behaviour. However, they refuse to refer her to psychomotricien (equiv. of OT) until she's seen psychotherapist as they think that's more important.

that sounds a bit arse over tit, as surely it could be sensory issues leading to anxiety/behaviour?

I would grab it with both hands to be honest. We get nothing from CAMHS to help with these issues. Go along and see what they say it can only be a positive thing if it helps.
Hope you are not in too much shock re: the new dx. Had a similar journey to you myself so now how it feels.

Take any help you can get - even if you have to be pragmatic to get it. 'Unstrange Minds' by Roy Richard Grinker has a chapter on the French approach to ASD/PDD which is very interesting. He is critical of psychotherapy but not completely opposed to French approach,

Understand your disquiet, but I guess it comes from the different French perspective.
