We'd like a trike--anyone been funded?

DD has a new v enthusiastic physio who says she (DD) would really benefit from a trike. She's shown me a pic of oneit's very sturdy with a strap-in seat, and you can isolate the steering so that all DD would have to do is pedal and I would steer with a long handle. She says we may be able to get funding from a charity and she will try and arrange this for me. It sounds too good to be trueis it? These things cost over £1000 new.

watching with interest!

ds had a fitting for a tomcat trike last summer and i've applied to 5 different charities with no luck so far, nearly got all the money myself now so probably get it by his birthday in may.

i think maybe its the economy, charities are getting more applications but less money coming in?

Have you tried Whizz Kidz? they got my dd2 an electric outdoor wh/ch and the literature shows sp needs trikes, bikes etc

Cerebra like to fund trikes-if you want a specific model you can ask. (they like Tomcat Glittery!) Also the Beckhams have a charity the likes to fund trikes alhough I'm not sure what its called. Children Today is another one that I know has funded trikes, The Caudwell Trust, Variety club, Sushine Kids as well as others. Most manufacturers can point you in the right direction for charities that fund their eqpt but it can take a bit of work!!

i tried children today and the cauldwell trust...among others! beckhams funds are allocated till next year apparently too.

havent tried cerebra yet tho!

Now that DD is getting older (she will be 3 in July)I compare her to her peers far less than I used to. I've got used to all the other little ones her age running around confidently (she still falls a lot and looks a bit wobbly). Lately even the ones who've just turned 2 seem to be riding three-wheeler scooters. DD is fascinated by scooters but doesn't have the strength or coordination to ride one.

Anyway, this is the trike she'll be trying out. At the moment her legs aren't long enough, and I don't think she knows what a trike actually does. But as it sounds like fundraising will take ages, maybe that's not a problem!

arses glittery - did children today turn you down? Boo They've funded everyone I know. Tough times indeed

I was denied by the beckhams charity - got a letter saying 'thank you for yr application. Unfortunately it has not been successful blah blah' but I hadn't even applied - just sent email asking how do I apply

I know our local rotary club were collecting in area once and my mate asked where the money was going and explained she was looking the fund a trike for dc - they agreed to give her some money there and then and were made up with having found a deserving local cause! you alright? haven't seen you round these parts much lately?

arabica - them quest trikes are good. We tried em out at naidex. We got the tomcat in the end as was the best for my dd (was smaller - she's only about 80cm) Love the way the feet are fixed into the pedals and go round - tis like they're peddling even though yr pushing it. here she is on it

Best of luck to you both in getting trikes

rotary club didn't give her pocketfuls of change btw - I meant they agreed there and then

didnt get turned down as such pixie, they just never replied, much like the others.
i think they are getting innundated with applications just now, i did phone a few up just to make sure they'd got the application and was told that they get so many that if you dont hear anything then you havent been successful...too busy to even send out rejection letters apparently!
